Additionally, the letter of intent signed between Enel Green Power and the government of Bahia provides for investment in creating job opportunities, thereby ensuring socioeconomic development for the residents of the northeastern state, as the modernization plan will require skilled labor in the energy sector.
“Bahia remains a leader in total solar energy generation, accounting for 30.16% of national generation. The state has enormous potential in both solar and wind energy. Renewable energies transform landscapes, the economy, and create jobs and income for municipalities in Bahia. The SDE offers institutional support and monitoring of the company, from its intention to implement to its installation, providing all necessary support at every stage of the process,” commented José Nunes, Secretary of Economic Development (SDE), regarding the importance of the company’s multimillion-dollar investment in solar energy production.
Multimillion-Dollar Investment in the Tabocas do Brejo Velho Solar Park Will Allow for Equipment Replacement to Modernize Energy Production
During the meeting to sign the letter of intent with Enel Green Power, the Business Development Director at Enel Green Power in Brazil, Jean Philippe Salvatore, discussed the improvement plan and stated that the company’s investment will be focused on modernizing the equipment. Thus, the original inverters will be replaced with more efficient and modern ones in the coming months.
The project will begin in the coming months, and the expected completion of the investment in improvements is slated for early 2023. Bahia currently has a total of 8 solar power plants benefiting the municipalities of Barreiras, Bom Jesus da Lapa, Casa Nova, Guanambi, Itaguaçu da Bahia, Juazeiro, Oliveira dos Brejinhos, and Tabocas do Brejo Velho, with an installed capacity of 1.6 GW.
Furthermore, another 180 solar park installation projects in Bahia are in development, and the state could achieve an installed capacity of about 8.3 GW, according to SDE data. Now, Enel Green Power’s multimillion-dollar investment could drive this plan and benefit the overall economy.
