Increase in Sales, Job Demand, and Expansion at Engerey’s Electrical Panel Factory in Curitiba.
The Brazilian company Engerey expanded its electrical panel factory to serve new markets in 2021. The company faced the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic by diversifying markets and, now, with the recovery, is registering a rapid increase in sales. In addition to the expansion, it also has job openings to meet demand.

According to Engerey’s management, growth is attributed to the overall economic recovery, which was stagnant during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Moreover, the increase is also related to Engerey’s expansion into new markets.
Due to the instability period at the beginning of the pandemic, Fábio Amaral, the company’s CEO, explains that he opted for market diversification, targeting the North, Northeast, and Central-West regions of Brazil, leading the company to realign its strategies and identify new markets for its certified panels, distribution boards, automation, sockets, and a range of other products focused on the electrical management of enterprises.

“During the pandemic, our strategy was to open new markets. While the South had its activities restricted by social distancing measures to contain the coronavirus, we focused our efforts on the North and Northeast, and vice-versa, for example. Thus, we maintained our revenue during the crisis period and, today, with the recovery, this action has translated into accelerated growth,” Amaral states.
To meet the high number of orders, the company opened job vacancies and hired new professionals for panel assembly and expanded its factory, which now totals 2,500 square meters.
This movement directly impacts the company’s production capacity by more than 20%, the same percentage of growth expected for 2021 in terms of revenue.
Certified Electrical Panels
According to the company, another aspect that ensured significant penetration into new markets was its focus on manufacturing Certified Electrical Panels. About 70% of electrical panels in Brazil do not comply with standards, and Engerey’s rigorous certification of its panels has become a major attraction.
According to the executive, there are currently two standards in force in Brazil for certified electrical panels: ABNT NBR IEC 60439 – which will become invalid at the end of 2021 – and ABNT NBR IEC 61439 – which was published in 2016 and will be mandatory for compliance in 2022 after a five-year adjustment period.
However, they are optional in Brazil, as their mandatory status comes from regulatory frameworks. The regulations governing the standards for electrical panels are the current legislation, summarized by ANEEL’s Ordinance 414 (National Electric Energy Agency), the Consumer Protection Code, and NR-10. The former establishes general conditions for the supply of electric energy, and the Code states that no one can supply a product that does not comply with the standards it needs to meet. NR-10 outlines the procedures for handling electrical panels and other types of electrical installations, being more related to workplace safety – applicable not only to people who will have direct daily contact with electrical panels but also to employees responsible for their installation.
“However, what few people know is that, in the event of an incident, everyone may be held liable. The law will follow the current standard, and responsibility will fall on all parties involved. This considerably alters how certification should be viewed in Brazil,” evaluates Fábio Amaral.
According to the specialist, specific markets have opted more for tested panels because they face situations that require reliability, such as data centers, hospitals, airports, shopping centers, and industries, where costs are very high in case of a shutdown. “However, these products are suitable for all types of installations: from residential to commercial and industrial. Therefore, there is still much to advance in Brazil,” he concludes.
