Investments in Minas Gerais May Exceed R$ 129 Billion, Potentially Generating Many Job Opportunities in the State
The Minas Gerais Investment Promotion Agency recently announced that the state could generate over 200,000 jobs with the investments to be made. According to the agency, the total investments exceed R$ 129 billion, with over 225 companies from 16 different nationalities, spread across nearly 30 different economic sectors, including: mining, industry, beverages, e-commerce, solar energy, and others. Investments by Mining Companies in Minas Gerais
The mining company Sigma Lithium will invest R$ 859.4 million to produce high-purity lithium on the border between Araçuaí and Itinga, in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northern Minas Gerais. The company began earthworks for the production and processing plant in Grota do Cirilo, Itinga, in June. This will be the first plant of its kind in the country, and the expectation is to complete the construction in 2022, when it will start producing 220,000 tons per year of lithium concentrate.
The mining company SAM – South American Metals (SAM) signed a commitment agreement aimed at monitoring the public prosecutions in the state of Minas Gerais during the environmental licensing process for the iron ore low-grade mining megaproject that the multinational intends to implement in Northern Minas. The large project may receive investments of R$ 11 billion and create 6,200 jobs.

Factory for Airplanes and Electric Cars to Be Built in the State
Desaer – Aeronautical Development – plans to build its airplane factory in the city of Araxá, Minas Gerais, aiming to produce the twin-engine ATL-100 (light transport aircraft). Construction on the airplane factory is expected to begin in the second half of this year. The company was founded by engineer Evandro Fernandes Fileno, who left Embraer in 2016 to create the ATL-100 and then establish Desaer.
The city of Nova Lima, located in the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, will host the Bravo Motor Company factory, which intends to produce electric cars in the municipality. The investment for setting up the enterprise is over R$ 25 billion, and it promises to generate 10,000 direct jobs.
With Billion-Dollar Investment, Minas Gerais Will Receive 3 New Aluminum Can Factories
Abralatas – The Brazilian Association of Can Manufacturers announced that three projects for can manufacturers are underway for the establishment of new factories within the state of Minas Gerais, strengthening the supply of aluminum cans in Brazil. The companies Crown Embalagens, Ball, and Ardagh Group will invest R$ 3 billion by the end of the 2020-2022 triennium in three new aluminum can production units spread across the mining state.
The multinational Crown Embalagens, one of the most important manufacturers of aluminum cans for beer, soft drinks, juices, and teas in Brazil, announced investment in Minas Gerais for the installation of a new factory in 2022 for the production of 2.4 billion cans and promises to generate many job opportunities in the region.
The American company Ball Corporation will invest R$ 504 million in a new aluminum packaging factory in Frutal, the state of Minas Gerais. With this investment, the factory will become the largest aluminum packaging facility for beverages. 100 new jobs could be created.
The Ardagh Group, in a recent presentation to investors, listed a project for a new factory with two lines also in Minas Gerais, along with expansions at existing units in the Northeast region and in Jacareí, São Paulo.
