Paraná Is Changing the Game in Road Infrastructure! With the Innovative Whitetopping Technique, the Restoration of PRC-280 Has Achieved an Incredible 32.77% in Just Two Months! With a Multi-Million Investment, the Work Will Bring More Safety and Fluidity.
The State of Paraná Is Implementing an Innovative Solution for the Restoration of Its Highways: the Use of Concrete Pavement.
This initiative has already resulted in a significant advance of 32.77% in the works of PRC-280, between Pato Branco and Clevelândia, in just two months.
The total expected investment is R$ 180,950,000.00, of which R$ 59,311,754.76 has already been applied as of February this year.

Whitetopping Technique: An Efficient Solution
The technique used in the restoration is known as whitetopping, which consists of using the existing asphalt pavement as a base for the application of a new rigid concrete pavement.
This methodology provides greater durability and resistance to heavy traffic, in addition to reducing the need for frequent maintenance.
Details of the Section Under Restoration
The section in question is 37.49 kilometers long, starting at the intersection with Avenida Nossa Senhora da Luz in Clevelândia, passing through Mariópolis, until the urban perimeter of Pato Branco.
This segment is vital for the flow of agricultural and industrial production from the Southwest region of Paraná, serving as an important logistical corridor.
Traffic Operations and Guidance for Drivers
Due to the methodology adopted, the services are being carried out one traffic direction at a time, with the implementation of a stop-and-go system 24 hours a day.
This measure aims to preserve the improved pavement and avoid traffic on the newly constructed lane, which is still in the curing process.
Drivers should be extra cautious, follow the guidance of the construction workers or choose alternative routes, using BR-158 and PR-459.

Additional Improvements Planned in the Project
In addition to the pavement restoration, the project will include the implementation of additional lanes at critical points, new horizontal and vertical signage, a surface drainage system, metal guardrails, and grass planting on the slopes of the widenings.
These improvements aim to increase safety and traffic fluidity in the region.
History of Similar Projects on PRC-280
This is not the first time that Paraná has used the whitetopping technique on its highways.
The Paraná Department of Highways (DER/PR) has already carried out a similar project on PRC-280 between Palmas and the intersection with BR-153 in General Carneiro, finished in 2023.
Recently, the new concrete pavement was completed on the section between Palmas and Clevelândia.
These initiatives demonstrate the State’s commitment to modernizing its road infrastructure, ensuring greater safety and comfort for users.
Expectations for Completion and Expected Benefits
The completion of the project is expected in November of this year.
With its completion, a significant improvement in safety and trafficability of the section is anticipated, benefiting directly the users of the highway and boosting the economic development of the region.
The adoption of concrete pavement, in addition to providing greater durability, represents long-term savings in maintenance costs.
According to specialists, the initiative of Paraná to use concrete pavement on state highways represents a milestone in the State’s road engineering.
The whitetopping technique applied on PRC-280 between Pato Branco and Clevelândia is an example of innovation and efficiency in public management.
With significant investments and a rapid advance in works, the State demonstrates its commitment to providing quality infrastructure, ensuring safety and efficiency in the transport of people and goods.
With the completion expected in November, the expectation is that the restored section will become a model for future interventions on highways, consolidating Paraná as a reference in innovative solutions in the field of road infrastructure.
