US Accuses China of Building Military Complex Larger Than the Pentagon. Structure Located in Beijing May Replace the Current Command Center of the Country.

On Friday (7), US government intelligence stated that China is working on the development of a war complex larger than the Pentagon. The project, which may be 10 times larger than the Pentagon, is located west of Beijing and would serve as the Chinese government’s command center in times of war. The US accuses China after satellite images and the reports were provided by the British newspaper The Financial Times.

War Complex Larger Than the Pentagon Covers 6km²

According to data from the British newspaper, US government officials accuse China and have been closely monitoring the site since the construction began in mid-2024. Intelligence analysts investigating the case referred to the project as “Beijing Military City.”

The satellite images obtained by the report show a war complex built in an area of 6 km², 30 km southwest of Beijing. These images are also being examined by the US government.

It is important to highlight that the Financial Times report was signed by journalists Demetri Sevastopulo from Washington, Joe Leahy and Ryan McMorrow from Beijing, Chris Cook from London, and Kathrin Hille from Taiwan.

The images, where the US accuses China, show that the area of the war complex larger than the Pentagon has deep excavations that, according to military experts, will house large reinforced bunkers to protect the country’s military leaders during any conflict, including the chances of a possible nuclear war.

Construction Advances as China Expands Military Arsenal and Invests in New Defense Technologies

According to former CIA China analyst Dennis Wilder, if confirmed, this new war complex larger than the Pentagon for military leadership, including President Xi as Chairman of the Central Military Commission, shows China’s intentions to build not just a world-class conventional force but an advanced nuclear combat capability.

The Chinese venture is being constructed at a time when the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China is developing new weapons and projects in preparation for the centenary of the force in 2027. The US accuses China and, in addition, highlights that Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered the PLA to also develop the capability to attack Taiwan.

The newspaper also reported that, despite the absence of military presence at the site of the venture, signs warning against taking photos or using drones could be seen at the location. Additionally, one of the guards at a gate stated that entrance to the construction site was prohibited.

New War Complex Larger Than the Pentagon Will Replace the Current One

A former US intelligence official stated that, despite the current headquarters of the People’s Liberation Army in Central Beijing being relatively new, it was not developed to be a secure command center. According to the ex-official, China’s main secure command center is located in Western Hills, northeast of the new facilities, and was built decades ago at the height of the Cold War.

The size, scale, and partially buried details of the new war complex larger than the Pentagon highlight that it will be a new replacement for the current complex as the main command facility in times of War.

It is worth noting that the US accuses China at the same time that Donald Trump announces the construction of a missile defense shield, called the “American Iron Dome,” a project inspired by a similar system from Israel.
