The Argentine Navy Exercise in October 2024 Marks One of the Largest Developments in History, with a Large Number of Vessels and Complex Operations at Sea. The Force Demonstrated Its Incredible Defense Capability and Training of New Officers, Expanding Its Preparation to Face Future Challenges and Stand Out in Regional Security.

Between October 22 and 25, 2024, the Armed Forces of Argentina conducted one of the largest naval exercises in recent years.

The training, titled “Maritime Phase”, not only drew attention for the large number of units mobilized but also for the complexity of the maneuvers performed.

This exercise was the culmination of a series of preparation and rehearsal activities for the Argentine navy, which constantly seeks to maintain high performance in the face of increasing security demands in the region.

An Impressive Deployment

The exercise carried out by the Argentine Navy was a milestone. For the first time in many years, the country organized a deployment of large proportions, with the participation of 14 surface units, in addition to aircraft, helicopters, and logistic ships, in a coordinated effort that mobilized the national defense fleet.

The operation was conducted in the waters of the Argentine sea, involving the coordination of various classes of vessels, including the ARA “La Argentina” (destroyer), and the logistic ship ARA “Patagonia”.

During the four days of operation, the Navy demonstrated not only its mobilization capability but also its skill in conducting complex operations at sea, which included everything from air defense maneuvers and combat to refueling exercises at sea.

Participation of Major Combat Units

The highlight was the presence of some of the most important units of the Argentine navy. Among the ships that participated were the destroyers ARA “La Argentina”, “Almirante Brown”, and “Sarandí”.

In addition, the corvettes ARA “Espora”, “Rosales”, “Robinson”, and “Gómez Roca” also took part in the exercise, ensuring the security and success of the operations.

The presence of ocean patrol units such as ARA “Piedrabuena” and ARA “Almirante Storni” was another significant aspect of the training.

These patrol vessels have the vital function of monitoring territorial waters and ensuring security against external threats, a crucial aspect for any country’s navy.

Moreover, the training also included support vessels, such as the tugboats ARA “Tenente Olivieri”, “Puerto Argentino”, and “Bahia Agradável”, which provided essential logistical support for the conduct of the maneuvers.

Operations Conducted During the Exercise

The exercise included a series of highly complex activities. Among the most notable were the launch and recovery of aircraft, as well as cross-operations between vessels.

The units also conducted at-sea refueling, a critical operation for maintaining vessels for long periods without the need to return to ports.

The simulation of refueling maneuvers was one of the most impressive, with vessels positioning themselves to refuel units while at sea, without interruption of the operation.

The training also included air defense, anti-surface, and anti-submarine maneuvers, highlighting the importance of integrated action among the different units of the force.

The Role of Cadets in Military Training

Another important aspect of the exercise was the active participation of cadets from the Naval Military School, as well as newly graduated officers.

The presence of these young military personnel was essential, as it allowed them to apply theoretical learning in a real-world environment, conducting live-fire practices at sea and testing weapon systems.

This training is a vital step in preparing new officers for commanding naval units and maintaining the operational readiness of the Argentine Armed Forces.

The Legacy of the Exercise: Operational Capability and Cooperation

The event not only showcased the combat capability of the Argentine Navy but also reflected a significant effort of cooperation among the units.

The exercise emphasized the technical and strategic preparedness of the Armed Forces, as well as the coordination among the different types of vessels and aircraft in the fleet.

The involvement of cadets and newly graduated officers also plays a crucial role in building the future generation of military leaders.

This type of training simulates real combat conditions and allows new officers to learn and practice skills that will be essential in the future.

Conclusion: The Argentine Navy on Alert

With the deployment completed and the exercise concluded, the Argentine Navy positions itself as a prepared force in constant improvement.

The country continues investing in its naval force, not only for national defense but also for the protection of its vast exclusive economic zone.

The Argentine navy has established itself as one of the main pillars of security in the South Atlantic region.

The exercise in October not only tested the navy’s combat capabilities but also its coordination power and adaptability in high-pressure situations.

Thus, the Argentine Navy prepares for future challenges, seeking to strengthen its presence and performance on the global stage.
