Initiative Boosts The Energy Transition In The Urban Military Sector With Solar Panels, Public Investments And Sustainable Results In Brasília
The Military Intelligence School of the Army (EsIMEx), located in the Urban Military Sector of the Federal District, celebrated on July 31, 2025 the official inauguration of its new photovoltaic solar plant. The initiative marks an important advance in the energy transition, a direct result of the partnership between Neoenergia and the Ministry of Defense, through the Brazilian Army.
During the event, attendees included General Anísio David de Oliveira Júnior, General Carlos Eduardo Barbosa, Neoenergia CEO Frederico Candian, Coordinator of Institutional Articulation Support at the Ministry of Mines and Energy Bruno Ribeiro, and Secretary of Innovation and Energy Transition at Aneel Paulo de Carvalho.
Photovoltaic Plant Will Generate More Than 500 MWh Per Year
The new structure received an investment of over R$ 1 million, made possible through the Energy Efficiency Program (PEE) of Neoenergia Brasília, regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). Additionally, the project includes the installation of 600 solar panels with an installed capacity of 339 kWp.

The Sol do Agreste Photovoltaic Complex begins operations in Pernambuco and accelerates the expansion of solar energy in Brazil, directly impacting the reduction of emissions and strengthening the sustainable energy matrix.
-
Roraima bets on the sun to escape high tariffs: Amid the energy crisis and price hikes, solar energy is growing in Roraima and transforming consumption in the North region.
-
Copel boosts solar energy in Paraná and brings innovation to public schools, promoting savings on electricity bills, energy efficiency, and a direct impact on the quality of education.
-
Brazil reaches historic milestone in solar energy: Sector surpasses 2 million accumulated green jobs and generates billions in the national economy even under market pressure.
With this system, the expectation is for a generation of over 500 MWh annually, which will result in a savings of approximately R$ 340 thousand per year for public coffers. Even on cloudy days, the technology allows the system to remain active, ensuring continuous, efficient, and environmentally correct supply.
Partnership Between Army And Neoenergia Has Already Allocated R$ 2.6 Million To The Federal District
In addition to this initiative, the partnership between the Army and Neoenergia Brasília has totaled R$ 2.6 million in investments in energy efficiency projects in the Federal District. As a consequence, an estimated annual savings of R$ 852 thousand has been achieved, reinforcing the importance of structural actions in the public sector.
Among the improvements implemented, the replacement of over 15.5 thousand conventional light bulbs with efficient models stands out, as well as the installation of 551 fixtures in various military units. These advances aim to modernize the infrastructure with a focus on sustainability.
Neoenergia Reiterates Commitment To Energy Transition In The Public Sector
Since it began operations in the Federal District in March 2021, Neoenergia Brasília has intensified its efforts in energy efficiency aimed at the public sector. The company has already made the replacement of over 247 thousand light bulbs in institutions such as the Federal Police, the University of Brasília (UnB), and the Armed Forces.
Additionally, 17 photovoltaic plants have been installed, totalling 3.1 MWp of installed power, significantly expanding the solar generation capacity in the federal capital.
Other actions of the program include the distribution of 321 thousand LED bulbs to more than 74 thousand families, as well as the delivery of 4,900 efficient refrigerators and educational campaigns for awareness about intelligent electricity consumption.
Project Aligns With The UN Sustainable Development Goals
The new plant of EsIMEx also reinforces the commitment of the Brazilian Army and Neoenergia with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially with SDG 7, which promotes clean and affordable energy for all.
According to Frederico Candian, CEO of Neoenergia Brasília, “the inauguration of this solar plant reaffirms Neoenergia’s commitment to building a more sustainable future and to energy efficiency in the public sector”. He further adds that “together with the Brazilian Army, we are demonstrating that the energy transition is already a concrete reality in the Federal District, providing economic, social, and environmental benefits to the whole population”.
Continuous Commitment To Sustainability And Innovation
Therefore, the strategic partnership between Neoenergia and the Brazilian Army demonstrates that the energy transition in Brazil is already practically under way, with effective actions, structured public investment, and concrete results.
The model adopted for the EsIMEx highlights how the public sector can lead the adoption of renewable sources, reinforcing its role in meeting internationally established climate and sustainable development goals.
This advance indeed represents an important milestone for the clean energy sector in the country. After all, each implemented action generates direct benefits for the population, enhances the efficiency in the use of public resources, and accelerates the adoption of sustainable technologies on a large scale.
