Federal Institutes gain 38 new campuses across Brazil with an investment of R$ 200 million. See the selected cities and details of the expansion of public education.

The network of Federal Institutes begins a new phase of expansion with the authorization of 38 new campuses, announced by the Ministry of Education on March 24, 2026. The units are distributed across various regions of Brazil, including North, Northeast, Southeast, South, and Midwest, expanding the reach of professional and technological education.

The announcement was made by Minister Camilo Santana, who also confirmed new investments to strengthen the structure of the network.

With this, the expansion of Federal Institutes will reach municipalities of different sizes, bringing free public education to places that did not yet have units of the network.

Federal Institutes reach new municipalities with campuses in all regions

The new campuses of the Federal Institutes have been distributed in strategic cities across the country. Among them are municipalities from Amapá, Bahia, Goiás, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, and Tocantins.

Among the selected cities are Tartarugalzinho in Amapá; several locations in Bahia, such as Remanso, Ribeira do Pombal, Ruy Barbosa, Santo Estêvão, and Poções; as well as municipalities in Goiás, such as Quirinópolis and Porangatu.

The expansion also reaches states like Maranhão, with a unit in Colinas, and Minas Gerais, where cities like Bom Despacho, João Monlevade, Minas Novas, Itajubá, and Sete Lagoas have been included.

In the Midwest, Colniza in Mato Grosso is also on the list, as well as Goiana in Pernambuco.

In the Northeast, Piauí will be served with campuses in Altos, Barras, and Esperantina, while Rio Grande do Norte will have units in São Miguel, Touros, and Umarizal. In the Southeast, the state of Rio de Janeiro will have new structures in areas like Cidade de Deus and Complexo do Alemão.

The South region has also been included, with units in São Luiz Gonzaga, Porto Alegre (North Zone), and São Leopoldo in Rio Grande do Sul.

In São Paulo, the expansion reaches cities like Cotia, Diadema, Guarujá, Mauá, Osasco, Ribeirão Preto, Santos, São Vicente, as well as neighborhoods in the capital such as Cidade Tiradentes and Jardim Ângela.

Finally, the state of Tocantins will have a new campus in Tocantinópolis, reinforcing the presence of Federal Institutes in the North region of the country.

New campuses of Federal Institutes expand access outside the capitals

The expansion of Federal Institutes prioritizes cities outside the major centers. That is, the focus is on the interiorization of education.

With the arrival of the new campuses, students no longer need to travel long distances to study. This facilitates access and reduces costs.

At the same time, the presence of the units contributes to local development.

In addition to the opening of the new campuses, the MEC announced a package of R$ 200 million for the Federal Institutes.

The resources will be distributed as follows:

  • R$ 120 million for student food;
  • R$ 50 million for equipment;
  • R$ 30 million for extension projects.

During the announcement, Minister Camilo Santana stated:

“We allocated R$ 120 million more for student restaurants, because it is no use just making the restaurant and not having the resources to ensure food. In total, it is R$ 200 million that we are putting in, with the MEC’s own resources, to strengthen the Federal Network.”

New campuses have structures adapted to the cities

The new campuses of the Federal Institutes have been planned according to the size of the cities served.

In larger municipalities, the units will have capacity for up to 1,400 students. In smaller cities, the limit will be approximately 800 students.

This division allows the structure to meet local demand.

IFs exceed 700 units with new campuses

With the authorization of the new units, the Federal Institutes reach 724 campuses in operation in Brazil.

This number reinforces the presence of the federal network throughout the national territory.

Moreover, the new campuses will be incorporated into the budget of the institutions in the coming years.

The expansion includes both urban areas and interior cities. This broadens the reach of the federal institutes.

While smaller municipalities gain unprecedented access to technical education, metropolitan regions receive a boost in educational offerings.

In this way, the new campuses cater to different social and economic realities.

Federal Institutes strengthen student retention with new resources

Part of the announced investments will be allocated to student retention. This includes food through the student assistance policy.

Thus, students in vulnerable situations will have better conditions to continue their studies.

Therefore, the new campuses of the Federal Institutes not only expand vacancies but also help reduce dropout rates.

The arrival of the new campuses represents more access to education and professional qualification.

With this, students from different regions will have new opportunities for training.

Finally, the Federal Institutes continue to expand their operations and strengthen public education in the country.
