Even After Sanitary Challenges, Meat Exports in Santa Catarina Grow Strongly, Driven by New Markets and the Resumption of Exports to China and Europe
The meat exports in Santa Catarina achieved historic results between January and October 2025, consolidating the state as a national and global reference in the agro-industrial sector, according to a report published.
According to data from Epagri/Cepa, revenues totaled US$ 3.72 billion, an increase of 9.2% in value and 3% in volume compared to the same period last year.
In total, 1.68 million tons of meat, including chicken, pork, turkeys, ducks, geese, beef, and other proteins, were shipped, representing the best performance in the historical series.

While Russia dominates the global wheat market, Brazil emerges as an unexpected competitor in the Cerrado, offering grain available in July and August when stocks in the Northern Hemisphere are at their lowest point of the year.
-
China returned almost 20 Brazilian ships with soybeans, but now everything could change: the country that buys 80% of the grain is considering relaxing regulations after impurities held up shipments of thousands of tons and caused million-dollar losses.
This growth reinforces Santa Catarina’s prominence in the Brazilian economy.
Even in the face of a challenging scenario marked by an avian influenza outbreak registered in the South of the country, the sector maintained its strength thanks to the unity among producers, cooperatives, and the State Government.
The strategy of diversifying destinations and seeking new buyers ensured stability for exports, strengthening the competitiveness of the local agribusiness in the global scenario.
Catarinense Chicken Exports Lead Growth and Consolidate the Performance of Catarinense Agribusiness
The catarinense chicken exports continue to accelerate, accounting for a large part of the sector’s revenues.
In October, 111.7 thousand tons were shipped, generating US$ 223.1 million.
Despite a slight decrease of 4.3% compared to September, the volume represents a 5.8% increase compared to October 2024.
For the year-to-date, the state shipped 985.5 thousand tons abroad, generating US$ 2 billion in revenue, a growth of 2.5% in volume and 6.3% in value.
The recovery of international confidence was boosted by the resumption of exports to China and Europe, especially after the reopening of markets in November.
Countries such as the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, and Japan remained among the top buyers, accounting for 12.5%, 10.8%, and 10.1% of the revenue, respectively.
The United Kingdom and Mexico also stood out, with an increase of over 30% in quantity and value.
With the resumption of the Chinese market, the state is expected to further expand its global presence. In 2024, China was the fourth main destination for catarinense chicken meat, representing 9.1% of the shipped volume.
The return of this market, combined with European performance, reinforces Santa Catarina’s role as the second-largest exporter of chicken meat in Brazil, responsible for 26.3% of the national revenue and 22.8% of the total volume.
Santa Catarina Pork Exports Stand Out with Strong Demand from Japan and New International Destinations
The pork exports from Santa Catarina also reached record levels.
Between January and October 2025, the state exported 630.6 thousand tons, totaling US$ 1.56 billion in revenue, increases of 5.9% in volume and 12.5% in value compared to 2024.
In October, there were 68.4 thousand tons, generating US$ 172.7 million.
Japan continues to be the main destination for catarinense pork, accounting for 20.9% of total revenue, followed by the Philippines (19.2%) and China (16.2%).
Mexico stands out, rising to fourth place in the ranking with an increase of over 60% in sales.
At the national level, Santa Catarina maintained absolute leadership, responsible for 51.2% of the volume and 51.9% of the total revenue of Brazilian pork exports.
According to the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Chiodini, the record performance is the result of a joint strategy between the government and producers.
Collaboration strengthens the production chain and enhances resilience in the face of market fluctuations. This combination of factors keeps the state in a privileged position among the world’s leading exporters of animal protein.
International Markets for Brazilian Meat Expand Opportunities and Strengthen the Performance of Catarinense Agribusiness
The advancement of external sales reflects the success of the policy of diversifying international markets for Brazilian meat, conducted in partnership among the Federal Government, the Government of Santa Catarina, and the private sector.
According to Epagri/Cepa analyst Alexandre Giehl, this diversification is the pillar of the stability of catarinense agribusiness.
By reducing dependence on a few buyers, the state has managed to maintain high export levels even during embargo periods.
In October 2025, Santa Catarina exported 187.2 thousand tons of meat in total, totaling US$ 415.7 million in revenue.
Although there was a slight decline of 5.3% in volume and 5.1% in value compared to September, a month that recorded the second-largest shipment in the historical series, the performance remains in line with the annual growth of 2.8% in volume and 4.1% in value over October 2024.
The data reinforces the relevance of meat exports in Santa Catarina as a regional economic driver.
The state combines productive efficiency, sanitary rigor, and institutional cooperation—factors that ensure the confidence of demanding markets and consolidate its leadership in the global trade of animal proteins.
With the reopening of markets and the strengthening of agribusiness, Santa Catarina continues to establish its image as one of the country’s largest exporting powers.
