Corn, Beef, Pork, and Chicken Were the Top Three Export Products in the First Month of the Year, According to Data from the Ministry of Agriculture
According to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture this Thursday (16), Brazilian agribusiness exports reached a record of US$ 10.23 billion in January, a 16.5% increase compared to the previous year and a record for the month. The result was driven by increases of 10.5% in average product prices and 5.5% in volume shipped.
Corn, Beef, Pork, and Sugar were the top three export products that stood out in agribusiness in the first month of the year, as reported by the Secretariat of Commerce and International Relations (SCRI) of the Ministry of Commerce and International Affairs.
As a result of the record amount of corn exported in January (6.2 million tons), total revenue increased by 166.4%, reaching 1.8 billion dollars. This is compared to the same month last year when total revenue was only US$ 0.7 billion.

China returned almost 20 Brazilian ships with soybeans, but now everything could change: the country that buys 80% of the grain is considering relaxing regulations after impurities held up shipments of thousands of tons and caused million-dollar losses.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture: “Several factors influenced this result: the slow pace of soybean harvesting, which facilitated the logistics of transporting the grain; the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine, which reduced the production of a major global corn supplier; and China’s demand, following the authorization for trading in November of the previous year.”
According to statistics from Brazilian agribusiness, the total value of exports of the meat complex reached around US$ 2 billion, which was also a new record for the month of January.
The value of beef was equivalent to 848 million dollars, while the quantity of beef exported was 182 thousand tons. With 57% of the total export value, China maintains its position as the leading importer of this protein.
Chicken Exports in January Reached US$ 839 Million and 409 Thousand Tons, Setting a Monthly Record
The spread of avian influenza in locations that produce a significant amount of chicken meat had, according to the SCRI, an impact on the global supply of chicken meat. As a result, Brazil saw a significant increase in the amount of protein it exported, which in turn affected the market value of the protein sold worldwide.
As a direct consequence, chicken exports in January reached US$ 839 million and 409 thousand tons, setting records for both volume and average export price. China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates were the main destination countries.
On the other hand, the total value of pork sales in January this year reached a record US$ 210 million. More than half of the quantity was purchased by China.
“The significant Chinese demand for animal protein was driven by the celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year, which began at the end of January,” the document states.
