The Largest Plant Outside Asia, With Production in Camaçari (BA), Symbolizes a Technological and Environmental Milestone in Brazilian Mobility
BYD is driving a historic transformation in the national automotive industry. Starting on June 26, 2025, the Chinese automaker will begin local production of electric vehicles at its new, massive facility in Camaçari, Bahia.
This monumental structure will be the largest BYD factory outside Asia and will concentrate three units: one for passenger vehicles, one for electric bus chassis, and another dedicated to processing lithium and iron phosphate, essential raw materials for electric vehicle batteries.
A New Chapter in Electrification: The Beginnings of BYD Production in Brazil
The arrival of national production symbolizes a global strategic repositioning of BYD, which has already dominated electric vehicle sales in the country since 2023, according to data from the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE). Now, with the inauguration of the factory, the company reaffirms its commitment to Brazilian industrialization and sustainable expansion.

Alexandre Baldy, chairman of BYD Brazil’s Board, announced that production will begin on June 26, 2025, marking this as the first hub outside Asia focused on passenger cars.
Among the most anticipated models to roll off Brazilian assembly lines are the BYD Dolphin Mini, a sales leader in 2024, and the hybrid BYD Song Pro.
A New Market Logic: Lower Costs and More Competitiveness
National production represents a substantial cut in logistical and operational costs, which should directly reflect in the final price to consumers. As a result, electric vehicles become more competitive and accessible, paving the way for the popularization of this technology in Brazil.
Furthermore, other Chinese automakers, such as GAC, Geely, and GWM, have also announced their entry or expansion in the national territory. BYD’s initiative, therefore, fits into a broader context of transformation of the Brazilian automotive sector.
Green Engineering: Innovation, Sustainability, and Jobs
The new industrial complex in Camaçari symbolizes more than just production. It is designed to be a cutting-edge sustainable hub, with optimized processes for emission reduction and the use of clean technologies.
With this, the factory reinforces BYD’s role as a leader in the energy transition of national mobility. It is estimated that the facility will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs starting in the second half of 2025.
The local operation will also allow for total control over strategic inputs, such as lithium, essential for the technological development of batteries.
Future Perspectives: BYD’s Leadership and International Expansion
The new plant in Camaçari is not an isolated move. It is part of BYD’s global growth plan, initiated in 2022, focusing on strategic markets like Latin America. The company sees Brazil as a key player in this scenario.
In July 2023, the investment in Camaçari was officially announced. Construction and adjustments continued into 2024, culminating in the start of operations in June 2025. The Chinese headquarters’ confidence in Brazil is manifested not only in physical structures but also in a long-term bet on the potential of the Brazilian market.
The country, therefore, which had already recorded a surge in electric vehicle sales in 2024, now additionally has a local production base. Thus, a new era of competitiveness, sustainability, and consequently, value generation begins.
