The objective is to strengthen and diversify the company's pectin portfolio to meet the global demand for this input, which has a growth rate of around 3 to 4% per year. Cargill currently has three other factories producing a wide range of pectin in Europe (Germany, France and Italy).

Currently, Cargill has 500 workers, but the company expects that at the peak of the plant's construction, 700 people will be working on site. According to the company, the next steps include completing the works and will generate around 100 direct jobs in the region.

“In a few months, our factory will be operating with a firm commitment to deliver this strategic project to Cargill on time, within budget and with all safety metrics. Our production will serve not only the local market, but also the global one, with growing consumer demand for increasingly natural products, mainly from the Asian market,” says Laerte Moraes, Business Director for Starches, Sweeteners and Texturizers at Cargill at South America.

About pectin HM

HM pectin is widely used in the food industry as in dairy drinks, juices, fruit jams, candies and is responsible for acting as a stabilizer, thickener and gelling agent.

Brazil was chosen to host the factory, among other factors, because it has an abundant supply of citrus fruits.
