This observation is supported by data from the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, whose latest report, released on January 4, indicated that there are over 10 million job openings in the American territory, many of which are in sectors historically occupied by immigrants, such as food and health.
“Historically, the American domestic market cannot fill all available positions,” Leão states, explaining that the current scenario is one of even greater scarcity due to the Omicron variant. With employees getting sick and needing to take time off, employers are in need of staff to cover these absences.
According to Leão, there is pressure from the business class to ease immigration restrictions, allowing the bureaucratic process of immigrating to the United States to be expedited. “For those who want to try a new life in the United States, now is the time,” declares the attorney.
