Volkswagen’s New Bet, the Up!, Promises Economy and Innovation in the Brazilian Market

When we talk about economy and modernity, Volkswagen is not left behind. In a bold move, the automaker launched the Volkswagen Up!, a car that promises to achieve 16 km/l and can cost up to R$ 28 thousand! But is it worth it? Let’s take a closer look.

Launched in 2014, the Volkswagen Up! arrived in Brazil ready to compete with heavyweights like Chevrolet Celta, Fiat Uno, HB20, Nissan March, and Chevrolet Onix. With a modern design and various innovations, the Up! quickly caught attention. Besides the changes compared to the European model, such as increased length and luggage capacity, it also featured a new sheet metal rear hatch. But the innovations didn’t stop there.

The Volkswagen Up! came with several versions to please all tastes and budgets. Let’s take a look at the main ones:

Take Up!: The most basic version, ideal for those who want to save.

Move Up!: With more comfort, such as air conditioning and electric steering.

High Up!: The top-of-the-line model, packed with standard equipment.

Black, White, and Red Up!: Special editions with exclusive colors and distinctive details.

As for the engines, the Up! did not disappoint. Equipped with a three-cylinder engine, it offered two main options:

1.0 MPI Engine: Naturally aspirated, with up to 82 hp and average fuel consumption of 13.5 km/l in the city.

1.0 TSI Engine: Turbocharged, with up to 105 hp and fuel consumption of 13.8 km/l in the city and an incredible 16.1 km/l on the highway.

Reported Problems with the Volkswagen Up!

Not everything is perfect in the world of the Volkswagen Up!. Despite all its qualities, owners have reported some issues that deserve attention. Among the most common are:

  • Internal Noises: Especially from the door windows and dashboard.
  • Steering Box: Frequent noises on uneven pavements.
  • Brakes: Low durability and questionable efficiency.
  • Fuel Injectors: Problems, especially with EA211 engines, often due to lack of maintenance and low-quality fuel.

The Volkswagen Up! has undergone several recalls over the years, including airbag replacement, fuel tank cap, and turn signal software updates. It is essential to check if the car of interest has undergone these corrections.

Is It Worth Buying a Volkswagen Up!?

The price of the Volkswagen Up! varies greatly, ranging from R$ 28 thousand to R$ 80 thousand, depending on the year and version. If you are considering buying one, it is crucial to verify that all maintenance checks have been done and to conduct a detailed test drive.

Volkswagen Up! Is Undoubtedly an Innovative Subcompact

The Volkswagen Up! is undoubtedly an innovative subcompact that has stood out in the Brazilian market. Its fuel efficiency and varied version options are strong attractions. However, like any car, it has its pros and cons. Do your research, test the car, and see if it truly meets your needs.

In the end, the Volkswagen Up! can be an excellent choice for those seeking economy and modernity, as long as you pay attention to the details and are ready to deal with some issues. And you, would you take on that challenge?

Possuo o UP! Move 2015… Comprei quase 0 km, agora com um pouco + de 70.000!!!

Único problema que tive foi na caixa de direção… Fiz todos as manutenções programadas!!! Faço em média 16 km cidade e 20 km estrada… Excelente veículo!!!

O único porém é que a própria VW por aumentos regulares de preço o sentenciou a sair de linha!!!
