Request Was Made To The Public Prosecutor Of Rio de Janeiro And Includes Breach Of Banking And Tax Secrecy Of Maria De Fátima Sampaio Moreira, Widow Of The Presenter.
The children of journalist Cid Moreira, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 96, requested the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rio de Janeiro to open a new inquiry against Maria De Fátima Sampaio Moreira, widow of the presenter. The request, made by the heirs Roger and Rodrigo Moreira, includes the breach of the banking and tax secrecy of the widow and the investigation of an alleged illegal enrichment and concealment of assets.
According to the family’s lawyer, Ângelo Carbone, the movement is based on a forensic report pointing to a diversion of over R$ 100 million in assets of the presenter while he was still alive. The document claims that Fátima’s asset growth would be incompatible with the declared income, reigniting a dispute that has lasted for years between the children and the last wife of the former anchor of Jornal Nacional.
The Origin Of The Conflict Between The Children And The Widow
The family litigation involving Cid Moreira began in 2021, when the children alleged that their father was suffering from mistreatment and asset manipulation.

At the time, the siblings attempted to interdict the presenter, claiming he showed cognitive and emotional fragility and was influenced by his wife.
The case gained national attention, but the courts denied the interdiction request, determining that the journalist still demonstrated autonomy to manage his own assets and personal decisions.
Even so, the process exposed a relationship marked by distrust and family estrangement, which persisted until the communicator’s death.
What The Children Of Cid Moreira Are Requesting

Now, the heirs are requesting a formal investigation into the origin of Maria de Fátima’s assets, pointing to a possible irregular transfer of assets prior to the presenter’s death.
The defense argues that the amounts handled by the widow would be “incompatible with her income” and that part of the father’s financial and real estate portfolio would have been diverted through powers of attorney and donations.
According to the request submitted to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the goal is to verify whether there was an impairment of Cid Moreira’s assets, who anchored the Jornal Nacional for 26 years and became one of the most enduring and iconic communicators in Brazilian television.
Two independent forensic experts were hired to analyze the documents and prepare the report submitted along with the request.
When approached, the defense of Fátima Sampaio stated that it will not make an official statement at this time.
The widow’s silence comes after the disclosure of the new investigation requests, which, if accepted, could reopen the legal dispute over the inheritance and the presenter’s assets.
Even after Cid Moreira’s death, the case continues to generate legal and family impasses. The communicator’s assets, accumulated over decades of work in television, are valued at tens of millions of reais, including real estate, investments and image rights.
The Personal And Professional Trajectory Of Cid Moreira

Born in Taubaté (SP), in 1927, Cid Moreira built one of the most respected careers in Brazilian communication. His deep and unmistakable voice marked generations as the anchor of Jornal Nacional, on Rede Globo, from 1969 to 1996.
Outside of television journalism, he also stood out for biblical narrations and work in advertising, consolidating an image of credibility and solemnity.
Throughout his life, he was married four times. From his first marriage to Nelcy Moreira, he had a daughter Jaciara, who passed away in 2020.
In the 1970s, he united with Olga Verônica Radenzev Simões; then, in 1993, he married Ulhiana Naumtchyk Moreira, with whom he had the biological son Rodrigo and adopted Roger, Ulhiana’s nephew. In 2000, he married Fátima Sampaio, a journalist with whom he lived for nearly 25 years.
The new accusation rekindles one of the most talked-about family disputes in the artistic world, involving not only inheritance but also the moral and symbolic legacy of one of the biggest names in Brazilian television journalism.
The decision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office on the opening or not of the new inquiry will be decisive in defining the next steps in this controversy.
