Last Friday (16), the Secretary for Economic Development and Labor (Sedet), Maia Júnior, and representatives of the companies Mingyang, Saipem and BI Participações e Investimentos discussed the installation of the first wind turbine offshore (inside the sea) in Ceará. The project is already in the environmental licensing phase and other authorizations well advanced for implementation. Details about the offshore project in Ceará

The pilot tower will have a capacity of 15MW and will be built near the Port of Pecém. For the Sedet secretary, this agreement represents an important step towards the development of Ceará. “Currently, we have several offshore wind energy projects attracted in the licensing process at Ibama, which add up to more than 6 GW. These projects will be the major producers of energy that will be used in the production of Green Hydrogen”, highlighted Maia Junior.

The schedule now begins with negotiations to obtain licenses, which can take up to 12 months. After the licenses are granted, it will take another 6 months to implement and start operating the turbine. Depending on the conditions for obtaining licenses, selling the generated energy and other favorable results, in addition to the pilot project, two other turbines of varying power may be installed to test different models of offshore wind turbines.

The executive secretary of the Economic Development and Labor Industry (Sedet), Roseane Medeiros, highlighted the importance of this initiative. “Certainly this pilot tower will help with the installation of the next offshore wind farms that will soon be in operation along our coastline. It will serve as an experience for studies and learning”.

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) is venturing into the offshore wind market and developing a new model of an offshore wind float. This Monday (19), the company announced that it received Approval in Principle (AiP) for its float model with 9,5 scale wind towers.

Samsung began developing the floating water tank model with offshore wind towers in October last year, before completing testing of the floating water tank model at the Korea Institute of Ship Research and Ocean Engineering (kriso) in March alongside classification societies, government agencies and other partners.

According to the head of technology department at Samsung Heavy Industries, Ho-Hyun Jung, the global movement to fight climate change is growing exponentially and so there is a great demand for renewable energy technologies such as offshore wind energy.
