Anvisa Determines Recall of Products Contaminated with Glass and Points Out Irregular Food Supplements in the Market.
The identification of health risk led the National Health Surveillance Agency to take immediate regulatory action.
This Wednesday (7), the agency determined the recall of food products and supplements in Brazil after detecting glass contamination in an imported batch of tomato sauce and serious sanitary irregularities in food supplements.
The measure was taken after Anvisa received an international alert and concluded that there was a real danger to consumer safety.

Therefore, the resolution suspends the manufacturing, marketing, importing, advertising, and consumption of the affected products.
Recall of Food Products Due to Glass Contamination
The main case involves the tomato sauce Passata de Pomodoro Di Puglia, from the brand Mastromauro Granoro.
Anvisa determined the exclusive recall of batch LM283, after identifying glass fragments inside the product, characterizing glass contamination and a high health risk to consumers.
According to the agency, the decision was motivated by an alert issued by the European RASFF (Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed).
The communication pointed out a serious risk to food safety in the batch of the product imported to Brazil, which required an immediate response from Brazilian health authorities.
Sanitary Measures and Total Suspension of the Batch
In addition to the recall of products, the resolution suspends any form of circulation of the contaminated batch. This includes sales in supermarkets, distribution by wholesalers, importing of new units, advertising, and most importantly, consumer use of the product.
Irregular Food Supplements Come Under Anvisa’s Radar
Meanwhile, the same resolution broadened the focus of regulatory oversight and determined the recall of five batches of the supplement Neovite Visão, intended for eye health.
The decision is based on the identification of irregular food supplements, with an immediate prohibition on manufacturing, marketing, importing, advertising, and consumption.
Additionally, the supplements contained a quantity of Caramelo IV exceeding the legal limit, which reinforced the health risk associated with continued consumption of the product.
The company itself announced the voluntary recall of the batches after the notification.
Company Without License and Seizure of Other Supplements
On the other hand, the resolution also ordered the seizure of two supplements manufactured by Ervas Brasil Indústria: Vitamin C Sucupira with Cat’s Claw and Cholesterol Dietary Supplement.
In this case, the irregularities were even more widespread.
According to Anvisa, the company lacks a Sanitary License and Operating Permit, used unauthorized ingredients, and engaged in irregular advertising, making therapeutic claims without scientific proof.
Guidance for Consumers and Next Steps
In light of the recall of products, Anvisa advises consumers to carefully check labels and batch numbers before consumption. If any of the mentioned items are in the consumer’s possession, the recommendation is not to use the product.
Finally, Anvisa emphasizes that regulatory actions like this are essential to ensure the safety of food and supplements available in the Brazilian market, protecting consumers from production failures, glass contamination, and irregular food supplements.
