Experts Question Whether the Ford Edge ST Really Delivers the Performance It Promises or If It’s Just a Sports Illusion for Fans of Powerful SUVs.
The SUV that promises to combine family comfort with sporty adrenaline. The Ford Edge ST arrived in Brazil with a big mission: to be the SUV for car enthusiasts, offering a more robust engine and aggressive design. But does it live up to the title of “Mustang’s SUV”? According to experts like automotive specialist João Anacleto, the Ford Edge ST is a bold bet that may not please everyone.
The Ford Edge ST replaces the old Titanium version and was the only option sold in Brazil in 2019, marking the debut of the Sport Technologies badge in the national market. Equipped with a 335-horsepower 2.7-liter V6 twin-turbo engine, it promises to deliver the expected performance for those who love to accelerate – whether on asphalt, on concrete or even on rougher roads. But does this combination of power and comfort make it the Mustang’s SUV?
The Engine of the Ford Edge ST and the Sports Proposal
The standout feature of the Ford Edge ST is undoubtedly the Ford V6 2.7 twin-turbo engine. With 335 horsepower and 54.5 kgfm of torque at 3,250 rpm, it can move the 2,040 kg SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in an impressive 6.3 seconds, according to specialist João Anacleto. This engine replaces the old 3.5-liter V6 with 284 horsepower that equipped the Titanium version, raising the bar for sportiness for those who don’t want to compromise on comfort and space for the whole family.

According to Ford itself, the Ford Edge ST was designed for those who enjoy sportiness without sacrificing practicality. “It’s the SUV for a Mustang owner who needs more space for their mother-in-law and kids,” jokes Anacleto.
It features an eight-speed automatic transmission and intelligent all-wheel drive, making it capable of tackling various types of terrain, which adds even more value to its sporty SUV proposal.
Design That Impresses and Makes an Impact
The aesthetics of the Ford Edge ST is another highlight. Its aggressive lines, combined with details like the 21-inch black-painted wheels and LED signature headlights, make it clear that it’s not just another SUV on the market. With a Black Piano front grille and the iconic ST badge on the front, it radiates sportiness. The square exhaust outlets and devilish taillights are other touches that reinforce this character.
But is all of this enough for it to be called the Mustang’s SUV? According to Anacleto, despite all the brand’s effort to create this connection, the Ford Edge ST is still far from the pure spirit of sportiness of the famous muscle car. “It’s a car that tries to position itself as sporty but delivers a performance that may disappoint purists,” warns the specialist.
Interior Space and Comfort – One of the Strong Points of the Ford Edge ST
If on the outside the Ford Edge ST tries to look fierce, inside it offers the comfort expected of an SUV. With a luggage capacity of 600 liters, space for five occupants, and a well-equipped cabin, the model is an interesting choice for those needing versatility in their daily lives. Additionally, the onboard technology, such as the premium sound system, individual screens for rear passengers, and a multifunction steering wheel, ensures that the journey is comfortable and enjoyable.
Even with so much space and technology, is it worth the price? With a suggested price of R$ 209,000, the Ford Edge ST faces tough competitors like the Volvo XC60 and the BMW X3, which also deliver performance and cutting-edge technology. And it’s here that doubts start to arise.
High Consumption – A Critical Point for Brazilians’ Wallets
Despite all the sportiness, the Ford Edge ST falls short in a crucial area: fuel consumption. With an average of only 5.2 km/l in the city and 7.3 km/l on the highway, it loses out to competitors like the XC60 hybrid, which offers much better efficiency. “It’s the price you pay for wanting a powerful engine in such a large SUV,” comments Anacleto. But are Brazilians willing to pay this price?
Is the Ford Edge ST the Mustang’s SUV?
In the end, the Ford Edge ST delivers what it promises: power, space, and striking design. However, for those truly seeking a driving experience akin to a Mustang, the Edge may fall short.
It is a robust, comfortable SUV with good technology, but it lacks that fierceness expected from a car bearing the ST badge. Is it an exaggeration to call it the Mustang’s SUV?
