Early Arrival in 10 Days, The FPSO Pioneiro Is Already in Brazilian Waters and The Company Announced Its Official Recruitment Channel
Anticipated with fervor, the FPSO Pioneiro de Libra is finally in Brazilian waters. This unit belongs to Odebrecht and Teekay and arrived on the 17th of last week (Wednesday). As the very name of this FPSO indicates, it will be the pioneer in producing pre-salt in the Libra field.
The expected arrival of the Pioneiro in national territory was set for May 27, but everything went so well that it ended up arriving much earlier. Its journey through the seas began from the Jurong shipyard in Singapore, where it was manufactured and assembled.
The trip was quite smooth due to various positive factors such as good weather conditions and rigorous logistical planning. Even in sections that require a bit more caution, it achieved an approximate navigation speed gain of 25%, which significantly reduced the travel time.

The only stop registered by the FPSO Pioneiro was in Mauritius to change the crew, board supplies, equipment, and materials. This stop lasted only 1 day and everything went smoothly there as well.
Since its inauguration in December 2016, this unit has been carrying out a range of commissioned tests in the oceans. About a thousand operational procedures were performed before launching it to sea, including inclination tests and propulsion system tests. On the way to Brazil, more tests were successfully executed, with only Petrobras inspections pending for the full start of activities. The forecast for the first oil extraction is in July, when the risers are anchored and connected.
It is worth remembering that the operators involved in the process are:
- Petrobras (Operator, with 40%),
- Total (20%)
- Shell (20%)
- CNPC (10%)
- CNOOC Limited (10%)
