Mercado Livre, the e-commerce giant, launched the Conectadas program, developed in partnership with the Argentine organization Chicas en Tecnología and the Brazilian organization {reprograma}. The 1200 scholarships offered by Mercado Livre will have a four-month online immersion, divided into 12 meetings. Participants will learn about digital transformation, problem solving, UX, business development and digital marketing.
There will be four classes with 200 places in total, and half of them will be reserved for black, brown and indigenous girls. Mercado Livre wants to awaken, in girls, an interest in technology from an early age and bring more women into the job market in the future.
Mariel Reyes Milk, Founder and CEO of {reprograma}, says that the initiative will help break down false paradigms and show that careers in technology are also for women.
“There is a social and cultural history that prevents women, from childhood, believing that they can work in the area of technology. Research shows that from the age of 6 onwards, girls start to think that they are not good at exact sciences, so an intellect is created that computers are only for boys”, she explains.
Requirements to apply for Free Market grants: Time and commitment of 7 hours a week and willingness to learn. It is not necessary to have any prior knowledge in the area to participate, but places are limited.
Free Market Registration: Registration will be open until July 1st, on this link.
