In national territory, gasoline and diesel prices fall as a result of the coronavirus

Gasoline and diesel prices at Brazilian service stations retreated this week, interrupting the series of highs, after Petrobras announced two cuts in prices at refineries in recent weeks. Data from the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) were shown this Friday.

Petrobras reduced diesel and gasoline prices last week and this Friday, amid a reduction in oil prices in the international market due to fears of impacts of the spread of a new coronavirus in China on demand for oil.

In an interview, Petrobras' assistant administrator said: "While this threat is imminent to human life, many people will be sheltered in their homes, that way, we will not have many workers, since the priority is human life".

In this way, Petrobras' diesel accumulates a drop of 10% in the year, while gasoline has retreated approximately 7% so far in 2020. At the pumps, gasoline was sold on average at 4,580 reais per liter this week, down 0,3 % compared to the previous week, interrupting a sequence of gains.

The most used fuel in Brazil – The price of gasoline

As is generally known, diesel is the most used fuel in Brazil. It was sold on average at 3,778 reais per liter, down 0,58%, also interrupting a series of weekly highs. As a result, hydrous ethanol, which competes with pump gasoline, increased by 0,09%, to an average of 3,250 reais per liter. The information that has been released by the media so far is that the price reflects the growth of the new epidemic popularly known as coronavirus.
