Even with the São Caetano do Sul factory in SP paralyzed for the production of vehicles, due to the lack of semiconductors, General Motors is preparing the unit for the arrival of the new Chevrolet Montana.

After confirming that the new Chevrolet Montana will be produced at the plant in São Caetano do Sul - SP, the automaker General Motors, started to publish a series of videos that show the process of transformation of the unit for the arrival of the pickup truck. In the video, in addition to being able to observe the works, General Motors also highlights the almost centenary operation of the unit.

No LinkedIn profile of the brand, in addition to the video, it is reaffirmed that the Chevrolet Montana pickup is under development and that it is one of the novelties of the investment cycle of R$ 10 billion that will be invested in SP. The video, which is led by the factory's executive director, Michel Malka, shows footage of the assembly line being prepared, including the installation of new robots and tools with unique manufacturing concepts for the production of the new Montana.

General Motors also says it is completely upgrading the plant to make it one of the most efficient in the world. According to Malka, since 2017, General Motors has been transforming this, which is one of the first automotive factories in Brazil. The result of these five years of work is an almost centenary factory with the capacity to compete with any factory in the world.

The new generation of the Montana pickup will be more sophisticated and also larger, aiming to compete with Toro and positioning itself above the compact Saveiro and Strada. The pickup will be developed based on the GEM platform, the same used by Onix, Onix Plus and Tracker, it will have a monoblock base and should deliver the comfort of a passenger car, but with a bucket.

Under the hood is expected a 1.2 turbo engine of up to 133 horsepower and 21,4 kgfm. General Motors has not yet announced when the new Montana pickup will come to the automotive market, however the expectation is that the model will be fully revealed in 2022.

General Motors may paralyze factory in São Caetano do Sul until August

In June of this year, the automaker closed an agreement in which 400 employees were involved, based on MP 1.045, which authorizes the suspension of activities at the São Caetano do Sul factory for 120 days and the expiration date was until this Monday (26).

Therefore, if GM resorts to this measure, vehicle production in São Caetano do Sul will only resume on August 26, according to statements by the president of the local metallurgist union, Aparecido Inácio da Silva. This is all due to the lack of semiconductor microchips that has been plaguing several automakers around the world, mainly GM, which is not producing its Chevrolet Tracker, Onix Joy, Onix Joy Plus and Spin models.
