Mini EV Cabrio Is The Electric Car Everyone Was Waiting For. The World’s Cheapest Convertible, At Three Thousand Euros, From General Motors, Is The Right Car, At The Right Price, With Sufficient Range, In The Right Place, At The Right Time.

A joint venture SAIC-GM-Wuling produced one of the electric cars that became a phenomenon in China, the Wuling Hong Guan Mini EV. This world’s cheapest electric car is so popular among Chinese drivers that General Motors made a convertible model for 2022, the new Wuling MINI EV Cabriolet is only three meters long, runs 300 km per charge, and reaches 100 km/h. The tiny vehicle was a bold bet by GM for a strange market niche, where things that copy the identity of famous products gain notoriety through explicit cloning, as recently announced by Click Petróleo e Gás, where a Chinese automaker cloned the iconic Volkswagen Kombi, shortly after shamelessly producing an electric copy of the Beetle.

The Mini EV has gained so much popularity that it is compared to the Tesla Model 3. The small, unassuming urban car is priced ten times less than its competitor.

GM simply saw 270,000 units sold in just nine months. Based in Liuzhou, Wuling, GM’s automaker, is rolling up its sleeves and launching the convertible version of the world’s cheapest electric car, its “sibling” Mini EV Cabrio.

The Mini EV Cabrio is receiving the same 26-horsepower electric motor as the coupe. With a length of 3.059 m, width of 1.521 m, height of 1.614 m, and a wheelbase of 2.010 m, enough to accommodate four passengers, the Hongguang Mini EV is the ideal urban vehicle for a very young clientele looking for a means of transportation for their daily trips around the city, at the lowest possible price. The Cabrio body adds the pleasures of open-air driving and style.

The Mini EV Is So Successful In China That General Motors Wants To Market It In Europe

With Shanghai-GM behind it, the Mini EV signifies that it is not a quality-less clone made by a rough automaker from the interior of China, but rather a player ready to go beyond the country’s borders.

The ambition of the Chinese division is to reach 1.2 million units sold in 2022! That’s almost as many as all electric car manufacturers in the country in 2020.

With 100% online sales, the Chinese brand communicates directly with customers, listening to consumers and making what they want, such as the Macaron version (colors reminiscent of fruits and sweets), while offering 20 colors and a lot of stickers for customization, nonexistent in traditional brands.

So great is the enthusiasm that SAIC and General Motors have for their success that they want to market it in Europe. To this end, they are already negotiating with a company in Latvia to achieve competitive manufacturing costs.

Going this route, the Mini EV is a serious candidate for the world’s best-selling electric car, which costs ten times less than the American model, causing Tesla to shudder.

Chinese Automaker Clones The Iconic Volkswagen Kombi, Shortly After Shamelessly Producing An Electric Copy Of The Beetle

The Chinese industry has yet to abandon some old habits, and the multinational Volkswagen is not flattered at all by the electric car manufacturer ORA, which is part of the Great Wall Motors group. The brand recently presented a clone of the Beetle at the Shanghai Auto Show. Named ORA Punk Cat, the vehicle has the same features as the iconic car from VW. To make matters worse, another Chinese automaker, SongSang Motors, has cloned the iconic Kombi; will this lead to “further developments”?

The Chinese automaker launched a new model inspired by an existing one. In this case, it is the SongSang Motors which presented the SS Summer, a van with a retro design clearly based on the Volkswagen Kombi or Type 2, as can be seen below.
