More Young People Are Using Artificial Intelligence to End Relationships, Write Apologies, and Even Optimize Dating Profiles
The phrase “It’s not you, it’s me” has gained a new spokesperson. Among Generation Z youth, it is often artificial intelligence that ends relationships. This practice was revealed by a study conducted in the United States with dating app users who employ AI.
Automated Breakups
According to the study by the assistant Wingmate, 41% of young people aged 18 to 29 have turned to artificial intelligence to end a relationship.
Most of them are women, slightly more likely to use the technology to deliver such news. The research surveyed over a thousand American adults and shows how robots are involved even in the most intimate decisions.

Mercor paid $1.5 million per day for doctors, lawyers, and former Goldman Sachs bankers to teach artificial intelligence to do their jobs, and in 17 months, it went from zero to $500 million in annual revenue while its own contractors accelerated the replacement of their own work.

The usage doesn’t stop there. AI has also been used to write apologies, resolve conflicts, and even initiate conversations. Among the respondents, almost half stated that they have sought AI’s help to draft delicate emotional messages.
Optimized Profiles and Easier Conversations
Another common function of AI in the dating world is profile optimization. Users employ the technology to improve personal descriptions, create impactful phrases, and suggest responses.
One third of respondents claimed to have used AI for love advice, while over 50% said that conversations improved afterwards.
In practice, 29% stated that dating became easier with the help of technology. Meanwhile, 21% reported that they began talking to more people. For some, using AI represents convenience and efficiency in interactions.
Robotic Breakups Generate Reactions
Despite the enthusiasm, using AI to end relationships causes discomfort for some people. TikTok videos show examples of breakup messages that seem to be written by robots.
One of them, which has already surpassed 240,000 views, displays a text with the caption: “When he sends a breakup text completely generated by ChatGPT, dashes and all.”
Not everyone finds this acceptable. While many consider AI useful or neutral, some users see it as artificial. More than 20% admitted to using AI in romantic conversations, but without telling anyone.
Artificial Intelligence for Ending Relationships: Emotional Risks
For sociologist Jess Carbino, former Tinder and Bumble, using artificial intelligence in breakups can be problematic. She asserts that emotional decisions require care and personalization.
“People may mistakenly assume that what AI generates in this context is valid or appropriate, when matters of the heart tend to be delicate,” she told the New York Post.
Growing Market
Even with the criticisms, automated relationship services continue to thrive. Platforms like YourMove AI and Rizz present themselves as allies for all stages of dating, from flirting to ending romances.
YourMove already has over 300,000 users and charges US$ 15 per month to automate messages and refine profiles.
Rizz, with plans starting at US$ 10 per week, promises personalized responses to impress the crush — even without defining where the help ends and interference in real feelings begins.
