BYD surprises by doubling job openings at its factory in Bahia, totaling 10 opportunities. With an investment of R$3 billion, the company accelerates the production of electric vehicles, responding to changes in Brazilian legislation.

BYD, a renowned Chinese electric vehicle company, surprised by announcing that it will double the number of job openings planned for the first phase of its new factory in Bahia. The decision was revealed by Marcelo Schneider, institutional director at BYD, during the Brazil China Meeting, an event that brings together companies and authorities from both countries. The objective is to accelerate the production of vehicles in the unit, scheduled to start between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025.

Surprising announcement of double job openings

Initially planned to create 5 jobs, the factory will now open 10 vacancies, a significant boost to the local economy.

Schneider highlighted that the measure aims to meet growing demand and take advantage of the favorable moment in Brazil, making the country the central focus of BYD's investments outside China.

The announcement was made at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, in Shenzhen, Southeast China, during the Brazil China Meeting, a LIDE and Valor initiative, with institutional support from GLOBO and CBN.

Schneider revealed that the anticipation in the opening of vacancies was influenced by the Brazilian government's decision to resume the Import Tax on 100% electric cars, suspended since 2016, and increase taxes on hybrid vehicles.

The total investment for the first phase of the factory in Bahia reaches R$3 billion, destined for a production capacity of 150 thousand vehicles per annum.

Subsequently, installed capacity will be doubled, reaching 300 thousand units annually.

The strategic choice of accelerating the employee hiring process seeks to align with changes in legislation and ensure efficient production.

Schneider emphasized the importance of Brazil for BYD, being the only country outside China to receive investments in several areas, from buses and monorails to trucks, forklifts and electric cars.

The executive highlighted the company's commitment to the Brazilian market and the need to take advantage of the opportunity to expand its operations.

In addition to the increase in Employment Opportunities, Schneider announced changes to the Camaçari (BA) manufacturing plant.

In February, expansion work will begin that will practically create a new factory and a renovated structure.

The factory, previously owned by Ford, was acquired by the government of Bahia to be passed on to BYD.

The executive also confirmed the launch, in February, of the Dolphin Mini, a compact and more affordable version of the model that stood out in the Brazilian market as the lowest-cost 100% electric car, priced at R$149,9.

During the event, Jolin Zhang, director of BYD's American sales division, presented impressive data on the company's performance in 2023.

Revenue reached US$61,7 billion, representing an increase of 56% compared to 2022.
