GM-Wuling Air EV electric car will leave China and will be exported to other countries later this year. The model has a range of up to 300 km and will debut in Indonesia in the third quarter.
GM-Wuling, following the success of the Mini EV, introduced its third electric mini car, the Air EV, in Indonesia. This release represents an essential milestone for the joint-venture from China, as this is the company's first model to be exported to other countries. Based on the platform Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV), shared with the Hong Guang Mini EV and Baojun KiWi EV, the company's electric car will go on sale in the second half of this year in Indonesia.
GM Air EV electric car details
The new model by the Chinese company will be produced at the Cikarang factory in West Java for the local market. It is important to point out that the Southeast Asian country is the only place where SGMW has a factory outside China and has a strong presence.
After the successful Hong Guang Mini EV and Nano EV launched last year, the company is adding the Air EV, a third electric mini car, which will be the brand's first electric model aimed at global export.
The Air EV utilizes the company's new design language from China, including the logo global silver. Styling features include low beam headlamps, a vertical rear end integrated with a horizontal bar running from one end to the other, as well as integrated DRLs that resemble the optics design seen from the front.
The model available for export is even slightly larger than the Mini EV, measuring 1.506 mm in width, 2.972 mm in length and 1.630 mm in height.
The electric car has two different wheelbase variants, one measuring 2.009 mm for the four-seat model, which adds taller rear windows than the front, and a shorter one, measuring 1.635 mm for two passengers.
GM electric car available for export will cost BRL 40
Standing above the Mini EV, the Air EV will be equipped with a electric motor 40 horsepower at the front, allowing the electric car to reach a top speed of 100 km/h. In addition, the electric car will be powered by a lithium iron phosphate battery that has an undisclosed capacity, but which can offer the vehicle a range of up to 300 km in urban use.
In China, prices for the electric car will start at just under 55 yuan (R$40.800) for the SWB model and 65 yuan (R$48.200) for the LWB model. The model will be launched in its country of origin in the third quarter and there is still no forecast for export.
In Indonesia, the Wuling Air EV will be the official partnership car for the 20 G2022 Summit, which will take place in Bali in November.
Mini EV ends last year on a high
The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV closed the year 2021 on a high in China as the best-selling electric car alone, managing to surpass the Tesla Model Y, which led the electric SUV category.
According to data from the China Passenger Car Association, in December last year, 50.561 Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV's were sold, representing the sales record among all current electric cars. Until then, no other electric model surpassed the sale of 50 thousand units in just one month.
