New Monza 2024 in Brazil! Chevrolet's midsize sedan that came to replace Onix and Cruze is Corolla's new nightmare!

In a turnaround in the automotive world, Chevrolet, one of the largest car manufacturers in the world, launches a new strategy to win the hearts and garages of consumers with the return of a classic, the new Monza 2024, which promises to be Toyota's terror ! Positioned in the Chinese market at an attractive value of 61,8 thousand yuan (around R$43 thousand in conversion direct), the vehicle aims to re-establish the brand as a leader in this crucial automotive territory. In Brazil, it is estimated that this classic will arrive this year and will be sold for R$90, being R$50 cheaper than the Corolla.

Although the Onix Plus has become a true legend on Brazilian roads, marking its territory as the undisputed leader, it has not replicated this success in China, a vital market for Chevrolet. Its sales in the Asian nation were judged to be insufficient by the company. Despite the challenges, Chevrolet launches in China the return to the market of one of the great automotive classics, Monza, aiming to reinvigorate its image with this new offer.

The automaker has high expectations for this relaunch. With the legacy of the Monza name, it's hard to imagine it not standing out. In addition to the marketing strategy that focuses on the triumphant return of the vehicle, the competitive price is a key attraction point.

The launch of the new Monza has an estimated price of around 61,8 thousand yuan, equivalent to approximately R$43 thousand( direct and tax-free conversion value). In the visual aspect, the model displays affinities with the Onix at the back and in the side profile. Meanwhile, the front grille, marked by a distinctive X-shaped design and perfectly aligned with the headlights, refers to the modern style of the new Blazer and the Seeker coupe SUV, both produced in China.

New Monza comes with a 109 horsepower engine and 14,3 kgfm of torque

The LED headlights on the new Monza bring to mind those used on the Cruze sedan. As for dimensions, the length of the new Monza is very similar to that of the Cruze, reaching 4,66 meters. However, its wheelbase is slightly reduced, measuring 2,64 meters, compared to the 2,70 meters of the medium sedan available in Brazil.

Inside Monza, expect a modern environment. The sedan adopts an innovative design with two 10,25-inch screens, fitted into a single frame, serving both the instrument panel and the multimedia center, similar to the Tracker RS sold in China. In addition, the vehicle offers a wireless charger for smartphones, an electronic parking brake, heated front seats, a blind spot warning system and exterior mirrors with defogging function.

In a clear attempt to overcome the criticism faced by the Onix, the Monza leaves aside the three-cylinder engines, little appreciated by the Chinese consumer. In its simplest configuration, it is equipped with a 1.5 four-cylinder engine, capable of delivering 109 horsepower and 14,3 kgfm of torque, a powerplant already familiar to the Chinese as it is present in other Chevrolet models. This version can be mated to a six-speed automatic or manual transmission. With the 1.5 engine, the Monza reaches 100 km/h in 12,9 seconds and offers an efficient consumption of 17 km/l in the city and 20 km/l on the highway, according to the Chinese measurement standard.

New Chevrolet car achieves 20,9 km/l

The second alternative that arrives on the automotive scene raises the bar with a 1.3 turbo engine, incorporating sophisticated 48V mild hybrid technology. This configuration delivers a power of 163 horsepower and a torque of 23,4 kgfm at 1.800 rpm, mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, promising an invigorated and energy-efficient driving experience.

Chevrolet highlights that the new Monza 2024 reaches the 100 km/h mark in just 9,2 seconds, combined with notable performance in fuel consumption, with 20 km/l in the city and 20,9 km/l on the highway. In addition to its presence in the Chinese market, the Monza crosses borders, arriving in Mexico under the name Cavalier, thus expanding its global footprint.
