The Tenth Edition of Brasil Offshore in Macaé Opened Today (06/25) in an Optimistic Atmosphere with a Speech by Governor Wilson Witzel. The Event Will Continue Until Friday (06/28)
The Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Wilson Witzel, attended along with sector authorities, in addition to the Mayor of Macaé, Aloísio dos Santos Junior, at the opening of the 10th edition of Brasil Offshore, on this Tuesday (06/25), at the Roberto Marinho Journalist Convention Center, in the São José do Barreto neighborhood, in Macaé.
The initial speech was given by the Mayor of Macaé, who talked about unemployment in the region, despite all the revenue from oil royalties for the municipalities.
The mayor also highlighted that Macaé has relied on oil for 40 years and that the city needs to start generating jobs again, emphasizing that now is the time to discuss gas to convert it into energy.
Santos Junior concluded by stating that the state cannot “embrace” everything and should be concerned with health and public safety issues while leaving the market open for free investment competition.

After the speech by the Mayor of Macaé, it was Governor Wilson Witzel’s turn to speak. The governor began by discussing the opening of the gas market and the need to break the monopoly, and he supports the current Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, on this matter, affirming that he is aligned with the federal government.
Witzel talked about the need to bring refineries to the state of Rio de Janeiro since with more refining, more jobs and more ICMS will be generated for the state, and he also mentioned the need to revive shipbuilding with the recovery of shipyards to meet the high demand that the country’s oil and gas market will have by 2030, which includes 35 floating rigs, 50 FPSOs, and 270 support vessels.
Rio de Janeiro as the Capital of Energy
The governor emphasized that Rio de Janeiro is attracting investors’ attention and will provide a good business environment, with the city becoming the capital of energy, in addition to already being the capital of oil.
Regarding energy, the governor stressed the project of the Gargaú Wind Farm, in the municipality of São Francisco de Itabapoana, in the northern region of the state of Rio de Janeiro, featuring 17 wind turbines with a generation capacity of 28 MW/day, which would supply a city with 80,000 inhabitants.
The commemorative edition of Brasil Offshore’s 20th anniversary will be marked by the sector’s recovery and positive projections given the success of recent auctions and an agreed timeline with new rounds scheduled until 2021.
