The Billings Reservoir is one of the largest and most important water reservoirs in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region, in an area of 10.700 hectares of water depth.

Proposals for generation plants with power ranging from 1 MWp to 30 MWp will be presented in four pre-established locations at Biilings and, after analyzing the documents delivered, Emae will select the best proposals, with the possibility of implementation by qualified companies. Applications for the competition must be made by December 9, directly on the Emae website.

The floating solar plants can be operated until the end of the concession for the Henry Borden complex, which will take place on 31/11/2042 or another period to be defined by Aneel, if the grant is extended, explains Emae.

Floating solar plants in Brazil

In Brazil, floating photovoltaic plants are still not very important, with emphasis on the hydroelectric projects of Sobradinho, in Bahia and the Cristalina farm, in Goiás, carried out with the participation of Sunlution. However, water technology has already spread in countries like Japan, China and Singapore.

Brazil is already home to an additional 1 MW floating solar plant at the Sobradinho dam, a 175 MW hydropower center on the São Francisco River in Sobradinho, in the state of Bahia.

Floating solar energy is a great alternative in Brazil, as the components, as well as the placement of drifting structures, can help to decrease the dissipation of the currently tested water storage tanks, in addition to increasing the supply of electrical energy in periods dry.

Along the same path, Furnas Centrais Elétricas is also studying the best way to implement solar and wind energy at the Itumbiara Hydroelectric Power Plant, on the Paranaíba River, the largest plant in the Furnas System and is located between the municipalities of Itumbiara, in Goiás , and Araporã, in Minas Gerais. The idea is to install a photovoltaic solar energy generation system around and in the plant's reservoir.
