The Angra delegation went to the minister to discuss actions aiming at reviving the shipbuilding industry in the city, which once had 12,000 workers and now only has 800 employees working on repair projects.
Another topic discussed was the resumption of the Angra 3 construction that is undergoing a definition of the current investment model, in which the government seeks to attract a partner to finish the works, and for this discussion, the president of Eletronuclear, Captain of the Reserve Leonam dos Santos Guimarães, was also present at the meeting.

The delegation from Angra dos Reis left the meeting very hopeful with what they heard from the minister. According to Bento Costa, the three auctions that will take place this year, for the pre-salt and onerous assignment, will double Brazil’s oil reserves and will demand the construction of 20 FPSOs with an investment of R$ 1.5 trillion in the sector.
The minister also stated that the construction of FPSOs will revitalize the economy of the municipality and the country.
“Companies can start preparing for these constructions as early as 2020. National shipyards and the offshore industry will be naturally revived, generating jobs and resources to better compensate workers,” declared the minister.
Invitation from the Mayor
The mayor of Angra dos Reis, Fernando Jordão, made a request to the minister to convey an invitation to President Jair Bolsonaro, to extend the visit he will make to the Angra nuclear plant to the Brasfels shipyard,
“ We have the best metallurgical workforce in Brazil and we need to start generating jobs again to overcome the crisis once and for all. We are optimistic about this proposal from the federal government for the naval sector,” said Jordão.
Another topic discussed between the mayor and the minister was the licensing of the Vacuum Storage Unit (UAV) to accommodate nuclear waste from the Angra 1 and 2 plants.
The mayor requested as a form of compensation for the municipality that the federal government release an investment of R$ 5 million for the restructuring of the health units of Parque Mambucaba and Frade, with the consent of the president of Eletronuclear.
The mayor also requested the release of 20% of the liabilities from the Angra 3 counterpart, an amount around R$ 230 million, so that the municipality could apply it to the sanitation of Praia do Anil and the water collection and distribution network in Parque Mambucaba.
Regarding this request, the minister promised to talk to the president of Eletronuclear, who was present at the meeting.
