The Pereira Group, Owner of Brands Like Fort Atacadista and Comper, Revealed Its Ambitious Expansion Plan, with Billion-Dollar Investment Over the Next Three Years. The Company, Celebrating 62 Years of History, Is Ready to Double Its Size by 2027, Opening New Stores and Consolidating Its Leadership in the Retail Sector!
During the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Fort Atacadista, in the city of Joinville, the Pereira Group announced a billion-dollar investment between R$ 700 million and R$ 900 million per year until 2027. This amount is expected to reach R$ 2.7 billion over three years, with the goal of opening 40 new stores, maintaining an average of 12 openings per year, according to the website ncstotal.
The commemorative event brought together the six Pereira siblings, heirs to the group founded by Ignácio and Hiltrudes Pereira, alongside important figures, such as Senator Ivete Appel da Silveira, who participated in the opening of the first store of the chain 25 years ago.
“Our history is intertwined with Brazil,” declared the group’s president, Beto Pereira, highlighting the fundamental role of Fort Atacadista in the company’s expansion into the Midwest and other regions of the country. For him, success is directly linked to constant innovation and focus on consumer needs, which “is always changing, evolving, and demanding more.”

Billion-Dollar Investment: Growth, Jobs, and New Markets
With a clear growth strategy, the Pereira Group aims to consolidate its presence in states like Santa Catarina, Mato Grosso, and Mato Grosso do Sul, while also planning to expand into new markets such as São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul. “We aim to grow about 20% per year,” explained the group’s director, Lucas Pereira Santiago, son of Irani Pereira. He detailed that the group already has stores in São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul, and new locations are planned for these states.
This expansion has not only increased the presence of Fort Atacadista and Comper, but has also had a direct impact on job generation. Lucas Pereira revealed that the company is expected to end 2024 with nearly 22,000 employees, but this number is projected to jump to 25,000 or even 27,000 with the opening of new stores by 2027.
Fort Atacadista: Success in the Attacarejo Model
The Fort Atacadista has been standing out in the atacarejo model, which combines the sale of large volumes with low prices, attracting both end consumers and small retailers. Currently, the chain has 60 stores spread across different Brazilian states, and the plan is to continue expanding.

At the event celebrating the 25th anniversary of Fort Atacadista, Beto Pereira emphasized that the group has always believed in the potential of atacarejo. “The Brazilian consumer wants savings, but also demands quality. And that’s where Fort comes in: we offer the best of both worlds.”
Moreover, the Pereira Group is also investing in other fronts, such as the expansion of the supermarket chain Comper and strengthening its presence in pharmacies with SempreFort. The most recent launch was a modern unit of Comper in Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso, signaling the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation in the retail sector.
Social Responsibility: A Generational Legacy
Behind all the commercial success, the Pereira Group has always maintained a strong commitment to social responsibility. Since its early days, when Dona Trude and Ignácio Pereira emerged in the company in the interior of Itajaí, Santa Catarina, the group has invested in social, cultural, and environmental projects.
“My grandmother always believed that part of what is earned should be returned to society,” stated Lucas Pereira, recalling the charitable actions that the family has taken over the years. The group continues this legacy, supporting various social and environmental initiatives, such as the protection of mares and support for educational and cultural institutions.
A Future of Growth and Impact
With a billion-dollar investment in sight and a robust expansion plan, the Pereira Group is preparing for a future of continuous growth. With the opening of new stores, the creation of thousands of jobs, and an increasingly strong presence in Brazil, the company reaffirms its commitment to innovation, social responsibility, and meeting the needs of its consumers.
In the coming years, Fort Atacadista and other brands of the Pereira Group promise to continue being prominent players in the Brazilian retail sector, with an operation that goes far beyond business, contributing to the social and environmental development of the country.
