Reiter Log Group Invests in Biogas Plant to Expand Clean Energy and Supply Fleet with Sustainable Fuel.

In recent years, interest in the use of renewable energy has grown significantly in Brazil and around the world. Moreover, among the alternatives that are gaining more and more space is biomethane, a clean and sustainable fuel that can replace petroleum derivatives in various sectors, especially in transportation.

Therefore, Reiter Log Group decided to make an important investment in a biogas plant to supply its truck fleet, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and innovation.

This movement occurs at a time when Brazil is seeking to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, which, in addition to contributing to global warming, have prices subject to great volatility in the international market.

Thus, the diversification of the Brazilian energy matrix, with greater participation of renewable sources, presents itself as a fundamental strategy for the sustainable development of the country.

Biomethane is a renewable gas produced by the decomposition of organic waste, such as manure, food scraps, and agricultural waste. Although its use originated many years ago, when researchers began to study biogas in the mid-20th century, only in recent decades has biomethane come to be seen as a real and viable alternative to fossil fuels, mainly due to the growing concern about climate change and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Furthermore, historically, Brazil has built a strong tradition in the use of renewable energy, especially with sugarcane ethanol, which has driven the country’s energy matrix since the 1970s.

Therefore, biomethane emerges as a natural complement to this matrix, taking advantage of the abundance of agro-industrial waste to produce clean energy.

Thus, investment in biomethane plants represents an evolution in how the country seeks its energy security and environmental sustainability.

The Reiter Log Group Project and Circular Economy

The Reiter Log Group, which operates strongly in the logistics and agriculture sectors, leads an innovative project by investing around R$ 120 million to build a biogas plant in Capão do Leão, Rio Grande do Sul.

The plant will occupy an area of 100 hectares and is expected to start operating in 2027, with an initial capacity to produce 400 thousand cubic meters of biomethane per month.

Moreover, this project does not just represent an advancement for the company, but also a clear example of circular economy.

Estancia del Sur, an agricultural company of the Reiter Group, and Geo Biogás & Carbon joined forces to create Geo del Sur, which will be responsible for the production of biomethane.

In turn, the raw material for biomethane generation will come from organic waste produced by Estancia del Sur itself.

The manure and other waste go to biodigesters, where anaerobic decomposition occurs, releasing biogas.

Then, the biogas receives treatment and purification to be transformed into biomethane.

In this way, Reiter Log Group adopts a circular economy model that seeks to reduce waste and efficiently use natural resources.

In the cycle of this project, Estancia del Sur plants corn that serves as feed for the cattle.

The herd’s manure is collected and processed to produce biomethane, which supplies the trucks in the fleet.

Additionally, the process generates fertilizer, which returns to the fields, closing the cycle.

Therefore, this integration between agriculture and energy represents a modern model of sustainability, bringing environmental, social, and economic benefits.

The investment by Reiter Log Group reinforces the company’s commitment to responsible practices and highlights the potential of the Brazilian agricultural sector to significantly contribute to clean energy production.

Environmental and Economic Benefits of Biomethane

This type of project clearly shows how investment in a biomethane plant can generate environmental, economic, and social benefits.

Besides reducing pollutant gas emissions, the initiative creates jobs and strengthens the local economy.

It is estimated that the new plant will generate around fifty direct jobs, helping to energize the region and foster sustainable development.

Moreover, biomethane produces much less greenhouse gas compared to traditional fossil fuels when burned.

This characteristic makes biomethane a key component in the strategy to meet Brazil’s and other countries’ environmental commitments in combating climate change.

Furthermore, the use of biomethane reduces dependence on petroleum derivatives, which have volatile prices and negative impacts on the country’s trade balance.

This reduction increases energy security, decreasing vulnerability to external shocks and fluctuations in the global market.

In the case of Reiter Log Group, investment in the biomethane plant will enhance the company’s energy autonomy, which already operates 35% of its fleet on renewable sources.

The goal is to have a fleet 100% powered by alternative sources by 2035, placing the company at the forefront of the energy transition in the transportation sector.

In addition to the environmental advantages, biomethane brings economic benefits, such as reducing fuel costs, as it can be produced locally from waste, thereby decreasing dependence on imported fuels and the impacts of international market fluctuations.

This strengthens the competitive potential of the company in a scenario that values sustainability.

The Potential of Biomethane in Brazil and the Energy Future

Brazil has enormous potential to develop biomethane, thanks to its large agricultural activity and significant production of organic waste.

By utilizing these wastes to produce biomethane, the release of harmful gases into the atmosphere is avoided, and the environmental impact of agricultural activities is diminished.

Diverse sectors already show interest in using this energy source, whether in transportation, industry, or for residential and commercial use.

The production of biomethane is likely to grow as technology becomes more accessible and efficient, and the environmental and economic benefits become more evident.

Thus, investments in biomethane plants, such as that of Reiter Group, are essential to boost this productive chain, creating infrastructure, technology, and technical knowledge.

The expectation is that this renewable source will grow strongly in the coming years, contributing to diversifying the Brazilian energy matrix and meeting international environmental goals.

Therefore, it is important to emphasize that government support, through public policies and tax incentives, also plays an essential role in stimulating further investments in biomethane plants.

Sustainable development requires collaboration between the private sector and public authorities.

Moreover, increasing societal knowledge about biomethane and its benefits can raise demand for this renewable energy.

Environmental awareness and the pressure for sustainable practices encourage companies to increasingly invest in clean sources, such as biomethane.

Commitment to Clean Energy and Sustainability

The investment in a biomethane plant made by Reiter Log Group marks an advancement in the pursuit of a cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable energy matrix.

With a long-term vision, the company aligns itself with global trends of sustainability and technological innovation.

This project illustrates how integrating agriculture, energy production, and logistics can generate effective solutions to environmental and economic challenges.

Additionally, the initiative creates jobs and strengthens the local economy, proving that sustainable development is both possible and necessary.

By investing in biomethane, Reiter Log Group not only modernizes its fleet but also contributes to a more sustainable future in Brazil, aligned with global demands for clean energy and reduction of carbon emissions.
