Heineken decides to test the power of renewable energy to produce beers in Brazil

One of the largest producers in the beer industry is innovating in its technology, Heineken aims to produce beers in Brazil with renewable energy technology. In December, the Heineken brewery announced that Brazilian production will start using 100% renewable energy in the production of beers, at the factories in Alagoinhas/BA, Araraquara/SP, and Ponta Grossa/PR.

The action of the Heineken brewery is part of the global strategy of the campaign “Brewin a Better World”, which has as one of its main objectives the reduction of CO2 emissions in beer production by up to 80%, by the year 2030.

But, for it to be viable, it is necessary to use only renewable energy, within the manufacturing and bottling processes of beers. The use of renewable energy also applies to the entire production process and bottling of Heineken brand beers, thus also including Heineken 0.0, among the three factories in the three states already mentioned.

The initiative is also part of the sustainability strategy of the Heineken Group in Brazil, which aims to operate entirely with renewable energy by the year 2023.

New Heineken beers will have the new campaign seal

The labels of Heineken and Heineken 0.0 beers, which will be produced with renewable energy, will be changed and a symbol will be added that will inform the consumer that the product, whether in bottle, keg or can, is part of the new Heineken brewery campaign, with beers made from renewable energy, from production to bottling, made entirely with 100% clean energy.

“We are proud to be able to produce Heineken with the same quality, but now using green energy and significantly reducing the impact on the environment. Sustainability is one of the pillars of the brand and also a priority for the Group in Brazil”, said Vanessa Brandão, marketing director for premium brands.
