Strong competitors and political fears mark a decision and contract that will modernize the Brazilian army's artillery with new armored vehicles

This Monday (29), the Brazilian Army Command announced that the Israeli group Elbit Systems was the winner of the international tender for the supply of 36 armored combat vehicles, in a contract that could get close to R$1 billion. Competition also included the Chinese Norinco, the French Nexter and the Czech Excalibur. The new ones armored vehicles will replace equipment used by the Brazilian land force from the Second World War until the 1970s, according to the CNN Brasil website.

The Atmos system, manufactured by Elbit and chosen as the most suitable by the Army Logistics Command, has already been exported to several countries. Countries such as NATO member Denmark and Colombia use fifth-generation systems, while earlier versions are in use in Thailand, the Philippines and Uganda, among others.

Find out more details about the armored vehicle contract for the Brazilian Army below

Political issues and the armored vehicle contract

According to information from CNN, there is concern in the Brazilian Army that the choice of Atmos could be influenced by political issues. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has strongly criticized Israel's stance in the war against Hamas, which has generated a diplomatic conflict with the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Brazilian military hopes that the final decision on armored vehicles will be based on technical and not political criteria. They claim that the Atmos system not only better meets the force's needs, but also offers the best technological tradeoffs.

Value of armored vehicles and signing of the contract

Each vehicle is estimated at around US$5 million. Based on this value, the total order of 36 units could reach US$ 180 million, approximately R$1 billion at the current price. Furthermore, the Brazilian Army foresees an additional expenditure of 15% to 20% on training and qualification of its troops to use the equipment, aiming to update and reinforce its artillery systems.

Signing the contract for the supply of first two vehicles, in a pilot batch, could occur in May. If this happens, these units should be delivered for testing in 2025.

From an ethical point of view, any business with the Zionist state must be avoided. We cannot contribute to the ongoing killing of civilians.

You're still going to bow down to China, Zionist.
China does not have military bases scattered around the world and does not massacre defenseless civilians. Don't come with the History of Tibet, it doesn't stick on this side...

The difference is that Westerners create wars, embarrassments... to dominate, while China invests in the country, it does not intervene...

Seek to learn what you don’t know instead of verbalizing hatred and ignorance. Some basic suggestions: learn about the historiography of the conflict between Zionists and Palestinians; read the work “Ethnic Cleansing in Palestine” by Jewish historian Ilan Pappé. Pay attention to the collusion between Zionists and Nazis to colonize Palestine, and also see how Great Britain worked with the Zionists to make this happen, as expressed in the Balfour Letter of 1.917. Be less stupid and more curious.

In what aspect does this “genius” disagree with my comment? And what is the basis, since he suggests he is studious? Renato, can you do this or does it boil down to aggression?

President Lula must veto this contract between the Brazilian Army and this Israeli company because the Armed Forces Command and the Minister of Defense must be aligned with Brazil's foreign policy and the President's speech against the war in Palestine.
In short, it would be ironic for the Brazilian Government to speak and not take concrete action against Israel.
Long live Brazil and Lula.

President Lula cannot accept this negotiation because he will be contributing to the massacre of the Palestinians.

There have always been and always will be in any country in the world, not only technical criteria, but also economic and political criteria for such decisions. It cannot be otherwise, since such contracts involve various trade-offs and advantages in other areas, in addition to political interests at the time. It is much more than simply acquiring a weapon. Certain politicians, journalists and military personnel pretend all the time that such factors do not exist, simply because they want to oppose a government that does not directly consider their personal interests.

I don't see any problem, there will be a problem if the company doesn't comply with the agreement! As for the question, why does President Lula ask Israel to stop attacking and ask Ukraine, which is being attacked, to hand over some land?
I am Brazilian, from the heart, without fear, I wish that Brazil receives an investment from another country! I also wish that Brazil allows companies to sell their weapons to whoever wants to buy!

We have our sovereignty, the Brazilian government does not want to expose the current situation, but behind the scenes there is a great discussion about what happened on 8/1/23, the high **** jump of Israel, the MOSSAD had privileged information of what would happen and did not inform the Brazilian government, making Israel COMPLIANT with the coup planned by the predecessor and this is serious, hence this INDIGESTION with the Israeli government, if it were the Brazilian government it would not accept this purchase from Israel or in the last case impose technology transfer.
