Investment In Renewable Hydrogen As A Sustainable Energy Solution
Renewable hydrogen emerges as a promising alternative for the energy transition, being obtained from renewable sources with low carbon emissions. The state of Paraná announces a series of measures aimed at creating an integrated policy to encourage the production, research, and use of renewable hydrogen in the state.
Governor Ratinho Junior Highlights Paraná’s Potential
During the 1st Renewable Hydrogen Forum of Paraná, Governor Ratinho Junior emphasized the favorable conditions of the state to lead this process and become an important energy supplier for Europe and other countries. The abundant water resource in Paraná is fundamental for hydrogen production.
Role of Plants in Renewable Hydrogen Production
Ademar Cury, Vice-President of the Brazilian Association of Small Hydroelectric Plants and Hydroelectric Generating Plants (Abrapch), highlights that the plants can be great partners in new renewable hydrogen projects. The PCHs and CGHs have the potential to assist in the production of clean energy needed to obtain green hydrogen.

Abrapch Evaluates Economic Viability
Renewable hydrogen is produced from the electrolysis of water, considered sustainable when obtained from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower plants. Pedro Dias, President of the Administrative Council of Abrapch, states that the PCHs and CGHs are ready to enter this new cycle, and a cost-benefit analysis is now necessary.
Hydropower Plants as a Security Energy Source
Dias emphasizes that hydropower plants should serve as a security energy source for the new hydrogen model, as they produce energy consistently and can support intermittent sources such as wind and solar.
Paraná Leads in Licensing PCHs and CGHs
Paraná is one of the states that licenses the most Small Hydroelectric Plants (PCHs) and Hydroelectric Generating Plants (CGHs), with 127 environmental licenses issued in just three years, representing investments of R$ 2 billion.
Environmental Gains from Installing PCHs and CGHs
The installation of PCHs and CGHs in Paraná resulted in an environmental gain of 228% in Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs) and the planting of native species, demonstrating the state’s commitment to sustainability.
