Green Hydrogen Hub Integrates Research Group Aiming to Develop the Implementation of New Technologies in the State.
Ceará aims to be a sustainable reference and intends to become an important green hydrogen hub, focusing on production and export. The innovative energy production technology is obtained through hydrogen, known for being a renewable and carbon-free source.
In this way, the Federation of Industries of the State of Ceará (FIEC), which integrates the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), has obtained support from the State Government and will lead, through a research group, the implementation of the HUB in the state. Thus, the state will be a reference for leadership in the development of green hydrogen hub technology in the region. Therefore, the research group will serve to deepen studies, as well as to develop strategies to attract investors to the HUB.
In a statement, FIEC President Ricardo Cavalcante points out that Ceará is experiencing a historic moment with this movement, which will mark the beginning of green hydrogen production in the state. Furthermore, he believes that the green hydrogen HUB will be capable of transforming the industry, the economy, and even the socioeconomic profile of the state. Thus, the entire industrial base of many countries is already being altered, not only for energy production but also for rail, road, maritime, and air transport, which are already using green hydrogen to operate. Therefore, the state with significant generation capacity could become a major global producer.

Green Hydrogen HUB Has Investments Exceeding US$22 Billion in Ceará
According to Ricardo Cavalcanti, 22 Memorandums of Understanding have been signed with the State of Ceará to date, projects that seek to develop green hydrogen initiatives in the Pecém Complex. Altogether, the announced ventures exceed the threshold of 22 billion dollars. In this way, Jurandir Picanço, energy consultant for the FIEC, states that the institution is committed to supporting all initiatives related to green hydrogen in the State of Ceará and has already been developing training actions at SENAI, providing strategic information at the Industry Observatory, in addition to directing its Energy Nucleus to support entrepreneurs in the sector.
Furthermore, according to the consultant, Ceará only stands to gain by being at the forefront of the project implementation and asserts that the Port of Pecém, a significant economic asset of Ceará, should transform into a major hub for green hydrogen production in the future. For him, the project will allow for a significant impact on Ceará’s economy, ensuring economic and social growth for the state, especially through job and income generation from this new production chain.
Today, Ceará has some competitive advantages that favor green hydrogen production. One of them is its potential for wind and solar energy, in which the state is already a reference, as well as having a strategic geographical location, being the closest point to Europe.
