South Korean automaker Hyundai intends to launch, in the coming years, an electric car capable of walking on any terrain, capable of surpassing even the Ford Ranger

Hyundai is developing an electric car with paws, which may be more powerful than the Ford Ranger. The vehicle has been named the Tiger X-1 and will have its first beta model assembled in two years. Hyundai's presentation on the electric car took place at the beginning of the year, where the vehicle's design and its main functions in the future were presented. The electric car promises to transport payloads over any type of terrain, and may be more effective than a Ford Ranger in more difficult terrain.

Unfortunately, Hyundai has not yet released information about when the vehicle that could surpass the Ford Ranger will be launched, and not even its price. What is known about the Tiger X-1 is that it is part of the project presented during CES 2019 called Elevate, which is focused on transporting humans.

The vehicle should be used for scientific research activities and even rescue activities. In addition, the automaker Hyundai also pointed out the use of the vehicle in space missions. Another function that the electric car with legs will be able to perform is to be connected to unmanned aerial vehicles, that is, drones, where they would be in charge of loading and delivering items in places that are difficult to access.

The vehicle can be used both with all-wheel drive and an axle that can be raised, thus showing its “four legs”. What makes it better than a Ford Ranger is that if it gets stuck or needs to go through places where its wheels can't progress, it will use its paws. In addition, the electric car can move 360º, equipped with various sensors capable of helping you while driving.

Hyundai's electric car can be recharged using drones

The name of the vehicle that can surpass the Ford Ranger is an acronym for Transforming Intelligent Ground Excursion Robot, in Portuguese: intelligent ground excursion transforming robot.

The model belongs to New Horizons Studio, Hyundai's innovation center, in partnership with Autodesk, which is famous for its engineering software. Other details about the model were not revealed, but there is information about a possible recharge using drones, which could happen through induction.

Meet New Horizons Studio

In September last year, Hyundai Motor Group announced the creation of New Horizons Studio, a studio located in Silicon Valley that focuses on the development of new technologies that can contribute to new forms of mobility.

The automaker explains that the innovation center will build vehicles, such as the Tiger X-1, going beyond the traditional limits of development, building models that can go through off-road soils, with a “futuristic” mobility.

To make this possible, the automaker will combine locomotion technology with robotics. According to Dr. John Suh, leader of the center, the aim is to develop and produce the world's first class of “Transformers” vehicles.
