Due to the global crisis of semiconductor chips, Tesla has postponed launches of some versions of electric cars such as Plaid and Long Range

Tesla has once again postponed the delivery of new electric cars Model S and Model X, in the same week that Elon Musk announced the suspension of cryptocurrency as a form of payment, and the global driver chip crisis may have some connection with the postponement. Earlier this year, Tesla confirmed updates to the Model X and Model S electric cars since they hit the market. Elon Musk revealed at the time that the models would reach 1.020 horsepower, due to the new performance versions Plaid and Plaid +.

Tesla releases new dates for the arrival of electric cars

Tesla changed delivery dates without justifying the reason for delays in the production of electric cars. It is noteworthy that Tesla discontinued, last year, the Public Relations sector, and ended all channels of communication with the press. Therefore, the sedan will arrive only in the 2nd half of this year. The Plaid version and the first units of the Long Range version, which would arrive in June, should be delivered to customers around September and October.

The only version that did not change its date was the Plaid + version, which, despite Tesla not having announced a date for the debut, is estimated that the version will arrive around 2022. For the Model X electric car, the Plaid and Long Rangee power versions, which had delivery dates for October, were postponed to January and February of next year.

Understanding the semiconductor chip crisis

One of the most likely reasons for the delay in deliveries of Tesla's electric cars is linked to the global crisis of semiconductor chips. The crisis in semiconductor chips has affected the automotive industry and Tesla has not been able to escape either.

The absence of chips should continue until the end of this year. At the beginning of the year, specifically in February, employees at the Fremont factory were notified that the Model 3 production line would be without operations from February to March.

Tesla works on electric cars that go beyond power

In addition to electric cars surpassing 1.000 hp of power, the Plaid versions are essential for those who want to be entertained during the trip, the version will be compatible with games like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 and, to further enhance your experience, with wireless control connection.

To make this possible, the multimedia systems of electric cars will use chips that have a processing capacity of 10 teraflops, that is, they can perform about 10 trillion floating point operations per second. To get an idea, the Xbox Series X, for example, is 12 teraflops.
