On October 21, in the capital of the State of Bahia, Salvador, the test phase of the bus powered by vehicular natural gas and biomethane began. The project is part of an experiment by Bahiagás, Scania and Seinfra – State Infrastructure Secretariat. Marcus Cavalcanti, state secretary for Infrastructure, said that the test phase is essential for the management of the State of Bahia to evaluate future transport tenders.

“We are carrying out this test period for two reasons, bringing a reduction in the tariff value for the user in the future bidding and being able to have a transition to more environmentally correct fuels. It is an experiment to assess the cost of this vehicle compared to a diesel-powered vehicle,” said the secretary.

The vehicle being tested has capacity for 110 passengers, is equipped with air conditioning, a lift platform, a special seat for the visually impaired and a guide dog. However, due to the pandemic, vehicle capacity has decreased.

According to the CEO of Bahiagás, Luiz Gavazza, “Economy is a key element since we are dealing with a less polluting fossil fuel, much cheaper and with the same energy capacity as diesel, the main fuel used in heavy vehicles today. ”, he said when mentioning economy and environmental impact.
