Brazilian Offshore Industry Could Build 12 FPSOs Per Year Over the Next 5 Years According to Investors in the Sector Who Project Great Expectations for the Future
Schneider Electric is very interested in the national construction of FPSOs, focused on developing the project in Brazil. It has assembled a team of specialists who specifically care for the Brazilian sector. According to the vice president focused on the local industry, Luis Felipe Kessler, the main technologies are already being directed to Brazil. Today, it already provides some equipment for FPSOs, with E-house (electric mode), specifically in the Santos Basin, Sépia. The vice president stated in an interview about this focus on the local market, “Furthermore, we are also providing [for Sépia] what we call electrical system automation. It handles all protection control. This contract is already underway and should be completed by the end of the year.” “Petrobras is starting to recover its profitability and has a clear investment plan in FPSOs for the next 3 to 5 years.”

The FPSO Market in Brazil
The national market is indicating growth, but it needs careful management to avoid losses. According to the vice president of the multinational, there is still much work ahead, and some projects need to be finalized. There is the situation of logistics, investments, refining, and the pre-salt, which generates many expenses. According to research and market trends for FPSOs, if everything goes well, up to 12 units could be built per year over a 5-year period. The main global companies and investors are seeking development opportunities in Brazil, with Schneider being one of them. The potential is entirely focused here, as the level of competition regarding auctions and partnerships continues to increase. Currently, Petrobras has been seeking clean energy, such as solar, gas, and wind, demonstrating a range of projects and investments that will bring profits to both the offshore and onshore sectors.

New Investments
The multinational already has contracts with some FPSOs, but they are looking to extend the contracts. The possibilities for 2019 include Libra with four units. Even being careful not to err in investments, the company is beginning to set up new plants, focused on the regional team that has a financial base in Latin America injecting all the investment to complete all the works. The company’s business base is offshore, and within the O&G sector, Schneider Electric has the highest level of technology and trained personnel in all petrochemical areas. Investment in Brazil will bring job opportunities, increased import and export assets, but the most important thing will be the revitalization of the Shipyards.
