Dix-Sept Rosado Airport, in Mossoró,  will undergo expansion and renovation in several areas; total investment expected to exceed R$ 34 million by 2027, according to Infraero.

The Dix-Sept Rosado Airport, in Mossoró (RN), is about to undergo a significant transformation. The Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (Infraero), responsible for managing the terminal since September 2023, recently announced an initial investment of R$ 18.9 million to begin the expansion and modernization works.

The contract was formalized with the company FLJ Empreendimentos, which will be responsible for executing the engineering projects and services. The forecast is that the work will begin shortly after the issuance of the service order and will be completed within 501 days — just over a year and four months.

The project’s goal is to enhance the airport’s operational and structural capacity, ensuring more safety, comfort for passengers, and the resumption of commercial flights. The improvements are part of a larger plan, which anticipates investments exceeding R$ 34 million by 2027.

Terminal Reform and Structural Works at Mossoró Airport Already Have a Defined Company

The hiring of FLJ Empreendimentos was published in the Official Federal Gazette (DOU) and marks the beginning of the project’s practical phase.

The company will be responsible for the development of the basic and executive projects, as well as the execution of the expansion and renovation work of the passenger terminal, the sewage treatment station (ETE), and the lower reservoir.

FLJ has a history in heavy civil construction, also operating in highways, railways, and specialized engineering services.

The presence of a company with this profile indicates that the interventions at Mossoró Airport should meet high technical standards.

Infraero Has Already Promoted Improvements Since the Concession

Since taking over the management of Mossoró Airport, Infraero has promoted a series of improvements.

The revitalization of the passenger terminal painting, reinforcement and recovery of the runway, modernization of the runway lighting system, and adjustments in the general aviation apron have already been completed or are underway.

These actions aim not only for the safety and functionality of the space but also for the resumption of regular flight operations, which is strategic for regional mobility and the economic development of West Potiguar.

Federal Government Allocates an Additional R$ 70 Million to Mossoró Airport

During an agenda in Brasília, Governor Fátima Bezerra announced that the Ministry of Ports and Airports will allocate R$ 70 million in investments to Dix-Sept Rosado Airport.

The funds will be aimed at increasing operational capacity, allowing the terminal to accommodate a larger number of passengers and aircraft.

According to the governor, the plan is to ensure that the airport is fully capable of operating regular commercial flights efficiently and safely.

This measure is considered essential to promote the logistical and economic development of Mossoró and the region.

Total Investment by 2027 Will Exceed R$ 34 Million

In addition to the recently announced resources, Infraero reported that by 2027, Mossoró Airport is expected to receive investments exceeding R$ 34 million. Among the planned actions are:

  • Renovation and expansion of the passenger terminal;
  • Environmental compensations and regularizations;
  • Construction of the Fire Fighting Section (SCI);
  • Installation of the PAPI system at both runway heads;
  • Acquisition of inspection equipment (RCC);
  • Implementation of access control gates;
  • Improvement of parking and access roads.

These interventions are part of a modernization package planned to bring the airport into compliance with operational and environmental requirements, as well as to meet the growing demand in the region.

Regional Development and Job Creation

With the modernization of Dix-Sept Rosado Airport, the expectation is that Mossoró will become a more significant logistical hub, attracting new flights, companies, and business opportunities.

Infraero emphasizes that the investments will have positive direct impacts on the local economy, generating jobs and income.

“The expansion of the airport’s capacity will contribute to an increase in flight availability and will drive the socioeconomic development of the region,” the state company reported.

With the combined investments from Infraero and the federal government, the terminal is on track to become a regional reference in airport infrastructure by 2027.
