USP Opens Slots for Undergraduate Courses for Students Who Excel in Knowledge Olympiads, Learn How to Participate.

The University of São Paulo (USP) has open enrollment for 219 slots in undergraduate courses, aimed at students who have excelled in national or international olympiads.

The opportunity includes more than 100 course options, such as medicine, economics, engineering, marketing, architecture, and urban planning, among others.

The registrations are free and can be made on the Fuvest website between January 13 and 24, 2025. This initiative reinforces USP’s commitment to valuing young talents who stand out in academic competitions and contribute to university excellence.

Participation Criteria for the Spot at USP

To participate, the candidate must meet the following criteria:

1.Have completed high school in Brazilian schools;
2.Have participated in national or international academic olympiads in the years 2023 or 2024.

The accepted olympiads include, among others:

OBMEP (Brazilian Public Schools Mathematics Olympiad);
OBL (Brazilian Linguistics Olympiad);
OIM (Ibero-American Mathematics Olympiad).

How Scoring Works

The candidate’s score will be calculated based on the award received in the competition, according to the table below:

Participation: 0.5 points;
Bronze Medal: 1 point;
Silver Medal: 2 points;
Gold Medal: 3 points.

Each undergraduate course has a minimum required score, which can be consulted in the announcement available on the Fuvest website, access from the following link: https://jornal.usp.br/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/ANEXO-IV_Pontuacao-2025.pdf

Enrollment Process

Interested individuals can apply for up to three courses, indicating their order of preference. To complete the registration, it is necessary to submit the following documents via the Fuvest website:

School transcript;
Proof of participation in accepted competitions.

In addition, USP allows students to compete for spots in different areas of knowledge, such as human sciences, exact sciences, biological sciences, and technology, across all seven campuses: São Paulo (capital), Bauru, Lorena, Piracicaba, Pirassununga, Ribeirão Preto, and São Carlos.

Check the main dates of the selection process:

Registrations: from January 13 to 24, 2025;
Preliminary Result Announcement: February 13, 2025, at 8 AM;
Appeal Period: from February 13 to 14, 2025, until 12 PM;
Regular Call Result: February 18, 2025, at 12 PM;
Virtual Pre-registration in Undergraduate Courses: from February 19, at 8 AM, until February 20, at 4 PM;
Finalization of Virtual Registration: from February 24, at 8 AM, until February 26, at 12 PM;
Expression of Interest for Waiting List: from February 24, at 8 AM, until February 25, at 5 PM.

Since implementing this admission modality, USP has attracted students with outstanding performance in academic olympiads. In 2024, 200 slots were offered in more than 100 courses, consolidating the program as a competitive and inclusive differentiator.

According to experts, valuing olympic talents contributes to diversifying the academic profile, as well as fostering interest in strategic areas of knowledge.
