Transportadora Brasileira Gasoduto Bolívia-Brasil, TBG, Started on Monday, 23, Surveys for Gas Transportation
Looking towards the future and expanding its network, TBG (Transportadora Brasileira Gasoduto Bolívia-Brasil) began on Monday, 23, consulting market agents to estimate the need for natural gas transportation in its system for the period 2023 to 2032. The survey will be conducted on the POC (Portal de Capacidade de Ofertas) of the company and can be accessed on TBG’s website. The survey will be available for submission by shippers for a period of up to 30 days.
According to TBG, the goal is to revitalize the TBG project for expanding the gas transportation system from the Incremental Public Call 2022 and continue to provide better commercial conditions, integrating the gas market’s interests into its supply chain processes.
“The Incremental Public Call should go to public consultation by the ANP in the first semester of this year 2022, then, if there is an approved announcement by the regulatory agency, TBG will hold the event in the second semester. TBG estimates that the expansion of gas transportation capacity, if the demands are approved, will be completed in 2027,” the company said in a statement.
How TBG Will Increase Capacity for Sulgás and SCGgás by 2024
TBG plans to start by the end of this year 2022 construction to improve the gas transportation capacity of the southern section of Gasbol, to serve the areas of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
The project launched by TBG received approval from ANP in April of this year and includes the expansion of the Ecomps (compression stations) in Araucária (PR) and Biguaçu (SC). The goal with this plan is to transfer gas production to 680 thousand cubic meters per day (m³/day) in the extreme south of Gasbol.

The Ecomps are responsible for increasing the pressure of gas transportation in the pipelines. Extending the gas transportation allows the company to increase the delivery capacity of the system without the need to build or expand the pipelines. However, the gains are small.
TBG has committed to delivering the completed planning by January 2024, to avoid the loss of gas supply in Rio Grande do Sul.
The total volume of gas supplied by Gasbol in the gaucho market is currently 1.7 million m³/day. With the implementation of the compression station reinforcements, TBG aims to guarantee an additional 680 thousand m³/day to the region of Santa Catarina, without losing gas delivery capacity for Rio Grande do Sul.
When asked, TBG did not disclose the investment amount for which the company would be paid. A document obtained by Agência EPBR shows that the proposal presented by the company has an estimated cost of US$ 29 million.
Sulgás Feared Loss of Gas Transportation Volume
The expansion of Gasbol is an old demand in the gas transportation industry. The gas pipeline has a telescopic shape, meaning its width decreases with its length, especially from the southern section. After more than 20 years of constructing the pipeline, it presents some obstacles to the expansion of the gas transportation market in the extreme south.
The expansion project in the southern section of Gasbol was presented by TBG as an alternative to the impasse surrounding Public Call 03/2021, aiming to achieve viable gas transportation between 2022 and 2026. The process aimed at expanding the gas pipeline in the southern section was suspended by ANP in February of this year, at Sulgás’s request.
