The Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Mato Grosso (IFMT) was established by Law No. 11,892, of December 29, 2008, through the unification of the Federal Center for Technological Education of Mato Grosso, the Federal Center for Technological Education of Cuiabá, and the Federal Agricultural School of Cáceres.

It is a public institution operating at the levels of basic, technical, technological, and higher education, with a pluricurricular character and a multicampus structure, aimed at professional and technological training in various teaching modalities.

Linked to the Ministry of Education, the Federal Institute has the legal nature of a federal agency and enjoys administrative, patrimonial, financial, didactic-pedagogical, and disciplinary autonomy.

The IFMT’s activities cover the entire territory of the State of Mato Grosso.

Currently, the institution operates 18 campuses fully functional, located in the municipalities of Alta Floresta, Barra do Garças, Cáceres, Campo Novo do Parecis, Confresa, Cuiabá – Octayde Jorge da Silva, Cuiabá – Bela Vista, Juína, Pontes e Lacerda, Primavera do Leste, Rondonópolis, São Vicente, Sorriso, Várzea Grande, Campo Verde, Diamantino, Tangará da Serra, and Guarantã do Norte.

In addition, it has two advanced campuses located in the cities of Lucas do Rio Verde and Sinop. Currently, the Federal Institute serves around 30 thousand students, distributed across more than 180 courses.

The programs include undergraduate levels — including bachelor’s degrees, licentiates, and technological courses — postgraduate programs, with specializations and master’s degrees, as well as technical education in integrated, subsequent, concurrent, and Proeja modalities.

The institution also offers courses in Distance Education modality, through the UAB system, and short-duration programs, such as Initial and Continuing Education (FIC) courses.
