Premium product importer detects strategic gains and competitive advantages in projects developed over more than two decades

Interfood, one of the largest premium product importers in Brazil, has detected strategic gains and competitive advantages in projects and solutions developed by Movecta. The partnership, initiated in 2000, has gone through various challenging moments but has always resulted in delivering better-than-expected results.

“Movecta has always sought to follow the SLA (Service Level Agreement), but most of the time they exceeded what was established in the contract. We have never had issues anticipating positions, loading of goods, and transportation. The logistics stage is one of the competitive differentials in the market we operate in, and we are always looking for the best results. In this long partnership we have established, quality service has always been one of our differentiators, along with other gains achieved over more than two decades,” reports Rosi Mazaro, Operations Director at Interfood.

The executive reveals some success indicators achieved in the partnership, such as reduced port expenses, cargo movement, and delivery times. “The Movecta team in Itajaí structured a project that aimed to reduce expenses with demurrage (fees charged by shipping companies for delays in returning containers). This item can significantly impact import costs. Movecta’s storage capacity and agility in operations have helped us reduce cost pressures, decreasing our expenses with this item by 20%,” the director says. “We also noted a 50% reduction in delivery times and cargo movement in Guarujá. Movecta has always managed to clear cargo very quickly, anticipating the stages of operation, especially in the movement and positioning of containers. Another important statistic is that the damage rate is also minimal, less than 1%,” Rosi asserts.

She also mentions that Movecta contributed to ensuring that the importer maintained an efficient logistics operation, adhering to high standards of service and delivery. “We have built a relationship based on exchanging experiences, always evaluating the best opportunities and solutions, in order to implement them and generate results. This has fostered trust, execution capacity, and concrete results,” says Rosi.

From Cod to Beverages

The relationship between the companies began when the importer needed an operator to handle the movement and storage of food and beverage products imported through the Port of Santos.

“At the time, we imported cod, olive oil, and wines. We needed a logistics partner that could meet our needs and the specificities of the operation. Movecta’s unit in Guarujá began assisting us throughout the process, from movement, customs clearance to nationalization in São Paulo,” recalls the director.

Later on, Movecta started to operate with all the volume of imported beverages by the company, including categories of wines, beers, liqueurs, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages. “We always strive to offer a qualified team ready to help the client in any situation. One example is the non-compliance of some seals, labels, and stickers. If they do not meet the rules of regulatory bodies, the cargo cannot be cleared. Therefore, we always have a team available to assist in this process, which is manually conducted by operators with all necessary care to avoid damage,” says Rodrigo Bacelar, Commercial Director of Movecta.

In April 2020, Interfood decided to transfer almost its entire operation from the São Paulo coast to Itajaí in Santa Catarina. From the announcement of the project until its completion, it took six months to develop new solutions that would meet the company’s needs in this other port.

“In this new phase, our biggest challenge was centralizing an operation that was entirely internalized. We started by handling customs-cleared cargo, evolved to container unloading, and currently store in our logistics center in Itajaí and transport to Interfood’s distribution center located in São Bernardo do Campo (SP),” explains Eliel Paulo Breve da Silva, Sales Manager at Movecta in Itajaí.

To give an idea of the operation’s complexity, from March 2023 to March 2024, Movecta handled 16.6 million bottles, which averages about 120 containers per month. Daily, four to five truck trips are made from Itajaí to São Bernardo do Campo, totaling 442 trips per year for cargo transportation and approximately 270,000 kilometers traveled.
