You Won’t Believe It! A US$ 4.5 Billion Oil Project Is Stopped in Espírito Santo, and the Question That Won’t Shut Up Is: Who Is at a Loss?
According to information from the A Gazeta portal, Prio, the largest independent oil company in Brazil, planned to start oil production in the Wahoo field, in the extreme south of the Espírito Santo coast, in the first half of this year. But so far, nothing has happened.
The company has placed this pre-salt field among its priority investments, but it has not received the same attention from regulatory agencies. So far, it is awaiting environmental licenses and other authorizations to begin operating. This year, employees of Ibama and the National Agency of Petroleum went on strike, which contributed to the delays.
Bureaucracy Involving Oil in ES
Bureaucracy has a price, and the ones who pay are not just the companies, but the population itself, which misses out on the opportunities that come with it. This is not the first or last time that the delay in obtaining documentation jeopardizes even the consolidation of investments.

In recent weeks, the announcement made by Prio regarding the agreement to purchase 40% of the oil field of Peregrino, in the Campos Basin (RJ), caused concern in the Espírito Santo production sector as it seemed like a move to withdraw. Fortunately, this threat has already been dismissed by the company itself, which guaranteed the investment in the state to Abdo Filho’s column. But the delay in licenses remains an inhibitor of investments.
Oil and Gas Production Needs to Be Secured
Oil and gas production needs to be secured; environmental regulation is not a mere accessory. It is a matter that must be taken seriously to prevent tragedies. But, at the same time, Brazil needs more agility in these decisions.
At the very least, companies should have answers that justify the delays. The risk of missing economic opportunities is inconceivable in a country that lacks investments.
US$ 4.5 Billion in Expected Investments
It is worth remembering that there are US$ 4.5 billion in expected investments for oil production. It is an entire production chain that will benefit, not to mention the returns in revenue. The excess bureaucracy ends up being an enemy of the population, which misses out on more quality of life.
And what do you think about this situation? Is bureaucracy hindering the development of the oil sector in Brazil? Leave your opinion in the comments!
