The Tatu Supercomputer Will Use Artificial Intelligence Technology to Provide Solutions and Data to the State-Owned Company. With the Operations of the New Equipment, Petrobras Invests in Optimizing Its Exploration Ventures.
The state oil company Petrobras recently announced the start of operations of its newest High Performance Computer (HPC), the Tatu Supercomputer. Similar to the animal, the machine features high-performance technology with Artificial Intelligence that will allow the company to develop solutions and gather exploration data and production in an even more optimized way. According to the state-owned company, full operation at maximum capacity of the new computer should occur by the end of this month.
Tatu Supercomputer Incorporates Artificial Intelligence Technology to Provide Petrobras with Fast and Efficient Solutions in Fuel Exploration
With an investment of R$36 million to put the new machine into operation, Petrobras announced that it has begun activities with the newest Tatu Supercomputer.
The machine is a high-tech device that will use the Artificial Intelligence system to provide efficient and fast solutions for the company’s exploration projects.

Geologists find traces of a continent that disappeared 155 million years ago after separating from Australia and reveal that it did not sink, but broke into fragments scattered across Southeast Asia.
The Tatu is similar to the animal after which it is named and aims to reduce operation time and the company’s operating costs in its ventures.
According to the state-owned company, the supercomputer is expected to run at maximum capacity by the end of March.
The Director of Exploration & Production, Fernando Borges, emphasized that Petrobras’s investments in Artificial Intelligence aim to leverage current high technology to improve operations.
“The focus of the Tatu is a mix of applied research and production. The applied research is aimed at solving specific problems in the Geosciences area through the use of Artificial Intelligence algorithms. Once a particular research yields satisfactory results, a project is defined to scale the original algorithm to a solution that can effectively be used by our geoscientists,” he stated.
In 2022, the company activated the Pégaso supercomputer, the 5th largest in the global oil industry. Now, with the Tatu, it reinforces its commitment to technology and innovation in exploration activities.
New Tatu Supercomputer Combines Artificial Intelligence Technology with Processing Power Equivalent to 462 Thousand Cell Phones or 12 Thousand Laptops
The Tatu is one of the most powerful supercomputers in the oil market, with processing capacity exceeding 2.4 Petaflops (Floating Point Operations Per Second), equivalent to 462 thousand cell phones or 12 thousand laptops, according to the state-owned company.
The supercomputer can perform complex simulations that will help the company explore and produce oil and gas more efficiently and sustainably.
The construction of the Tatu is part of Petrobras’s investment plan in technology and innovation. The company has been investing in other areas, such as artificial intelligence, big data, and robotics, to improve its operational efficiency and reduce costs.
The adoption of Artificial Intelligence for exploration solutions reinforces the company’s commitment to current technological advancements.
Furthermore, the Tatu can help Petrobras develop new technologies and solutions for the challenges faced by the oil and natural gas exploration industry, becoming a strong highlight for the company in the coming years.
