With Capacity to Treat 500 Liters Per Second, the New Water Treatment Station Strengthens the Water Security of Itajaí and Is Expected to Enter Partial Operation as Early as 2025.

On Monday (16), the execution of the works for the new Water Treatment Station (ETA) in Itajaí was officially authorized, in a ceremony held at the administrative headquarters of Semasa, in Vila Operária. With an investment of R$ 38.5 million, the new unit will be built along the banks of the rectified canal of the Itajaí-Mirim river, in the São Roque neighborhood, with an expected start of operations in 2025.

The winner of the bidding was the company Bio G Sistemas de Saneamento LTDA, selected among six competitors for presenting the lowest price and meeting all the technical criteria of the tender.

The project is considered one of the largest structural actions of the current municipal administration, aimed at ensuring greater efficiency in the supply system, especially during periods of higher demand, such as summer.

Station Will Have Modular Capacity and Delivery Will Be in Two Phases

The new Water Treatment Station was designed with modular capacity, able to treat up to 500 liters per second. The first phase, with 250 l/s, is expected to be completed in 2025.

The second phase, with another 250 l/s, will be finalized in 2026. This technical strategy will allow for a more agile response to the growing needs of the population of Itajaí.

Civil Engineer Flávio de Faria, Sanitation Director of Semasa, explained that the use of prefabricated units will speed up the delivery schedule.

“The use of prefabricated modular units is differentiated, accelerating implementation, addressing urgent demand, and allowing flexibility for future relocations,” he stated.

Leaders Highlight Impact on Quality of Life and the Future of the City

Mayor Robison Coelho emphasized the strategic importance of the project, pointing to the administration’s commitment to water security and urban infrastructure:

“It reaffirms Semasa’s commitment, as a member of the municipal administration, to ensure exemplary water supply for the population of Itajaí, laying the groundwork for a future with greater water security and an infrastructure that fosters development.”

Vice-mayor Rubens Angioletti noted that the prioritization of resources reflects a new way of managing the investments of the autarchy:

“In the past, there was a shortage for investments; now we do it differently. Semasa’s resources go to water and sewage because we understand the pains of our people.”

In addition to strengthening supply, the project of the new ETA incorporates sustainability guidelines and environmental commitment.

The implementation provides for strict compliance with legal requirements, such as waste generation control, and ensures that the treated water will meet national potability standards.

Hugo Praun Filho, General Director of Semasa, highlighted the relevance of the investment for the entire region:

“The implementation of the new modular ETA represents an essential commitment to the quality of life of the population and sustainable development in Itajaí and Navegantes.”

New ETA Strengthens Itajaí’s Position in the Sanitation Scenario

With the authorization of the works of the new Water Treatment Station, Itajaí takes another important step towards a more efficient, modern sanitation system adapted to future urban demands.

The project, in addition to increasing supply capacity, positions the municipality as a reference in water planning and basic infrastructure management in the state of Santa Catarina.

The expectation is that, with the entry into operation of the new unit, episodes of scarcity during peak consumption periods will be significantly reduced, improving the quality of life for residents and favoring orderly urban growth.
