The Jeep Compass, one of the most important and popular SUVs in the country, is about to undergo a major change. With over 40% market share, the Compass is the most sold mid-SUV in Brazil. In the coming months, the model will face a controversy that could impact its future.

Despite the unfortunate end, the Compass will continue to be one of the most important and desired SUVs in the country. With its new versions and competitive prices, the Compass is ready to face the challenges of the market and maintain its prominent position in the mid-SUV segment in Brazil. In this article, we will explore the changes to come and what this means for the SUV and the Jeep lineup.

The End of Diesel Versions

One of the main changes to the Jeep Compass is the end of diesel versions. Currently, the Compass offers a 2.0 Turbo Diesel four-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower and 35.7 kg of torque. This engine has made the Compass an accessible and popular option among diesel models in Brazil.

However, due to the new Proconve L8 emissions regulations, which will come into effect next year, Jeep has decided to accelerate the change. The Compass will no longer offer a diesel engine in any versions. This decision is a result not only of the new regulations but also of the decline in demand for diesel models and the increase in fuel prices.

Compass Will Be Equipped with a 2.0 Turbo Gasoline Four-Cylinder Engine, the Same Mechanical Setup as Rampage and Jeep Wrangler

Despite the end of diesel versions, Jeep is working on a new strategy for the Compass. Starting with the 2025 lineup, the SUV will feature the Hurricane 4 mechanical setup, currently used in the Rampage and Jeep Wrangler models. This setup consists of a 2.0 Turbo gasoline four-cylinder engine with direct fuel injection, producing 270 horsepower and 40.8 kg of torque.

Diesel Car Sales in Brazil Plummet Due to Soaring Fuel Prices and Consumers Prefer Gasoline Engines

The decision to replace the diesel engine with the Hurricane 4 engine is mainly due to cost concerns. Diesel engines are more expensive to manufacture, which affects the final price of the vehicle. On the other hand, the Hurricane engine, while also sophisticated and modern, is more affordable compared to diesel.

Furthermore, in recent months, sales of diesel models in Brazil have significantly decreased due to the increase in fuel prices. Diesel, which was previously advantageous in terms of consumption, is no longer an economical option due to the high fuel costs. As a result, Brazilians are choosing gasoline-powered models.

Jeep Plans to Add Flex Technology to the Engine in the Future

The Hurricane 4 engine has great potential to deliver excellent performance for the Compass. The SUV will have impressive acceleration, with fuel consumption averages almost identical to the versions with the 1.3 turboflex engine. Initially, the Compass with the Hurricane engine will be offered only in the gasoline version, but Jeep plans to add flex technology to the engine in the future, extending it to the entire lineup that uses this mechanical setup.

Compass Will Have Three Initial Versions in Brazil

With the arrival of the Hurricane setup, the Compass will have three initial versions in Brazil: Longitude, Overland, and Black Hawk. The latter will be the sportiest version, with a more aggressive driving mode, prepared suspension, sporty exhaust, and all the elements expected of a sports car.

In addition, there is a possibility that the Compass will also feature a Trailhawk version in the future, although there is no confirmation yet.

Price of the New Compass 2025 in Brazil

Recently, the turbodiesel versions of the Compass saw a price increase. This was a way to prepare the public for the price values that will be maintained when the diesel engine is replaced by the gasoline engine. The Black Hawk version, which will be the top-of-the-line, will be close to R$ 300,000 but will not exceed this value. The Forbidden version will be the most expensive in the lineup.

The other configurations of the Compass, which come with the 1.3 turboflex engine, are expected to maintain their prices. These versions are more affordable compared to diesel, and the current prices are as follows: Sport T270 (R$ 184,900), Longitude T270 (R$ 199,900), Limited T270 (R$ 223,990), and Série ST T270 (R$ 229,990).

Despite the End of Diesel Versions, the Compass Will Continue to Be One of the Most Important and Desired SUVs in the Country

Jeep’s decision to replace the diesel versions of the Compass with the Hurricane 4 engine may be controversial, but it is a response to changes in the market and regulations. Diesel engines are losing ground due to rising fuel prices, making them less advantageous in terms of fuel consumption.

The Hurricane 4 engine has the potential to deliver excellent performance for the Compass while maintaining fuel consumption averages similar to the versions with the 1.3 turboflex engine. With the addition of flex technology to the engine in the future, the Compass will become even more versatile and suitable to meet the needs of Brazilian consumers.
