Young Man From Ceará, Resident of a City in the Interior of the Northeast, Approved in Medicine at a Federal University and in Three Other Public Institutions, Becoming an Example of Perseverance and Inspiration for Millions of Brazilians
In the heart of the Brazilian northeast, in a small town in the interior of the northeast, a story caught attention and gained regional prominence. A young man from Ceará, only 17 years old, showed that a simple background does not limit large dreams. André Pereira Veras, a resident of the rural area of Guaraciaba do Norte, was approved in Medicine at a federal university and also secured three other spots in public institutions.
He lives in Sítio Limoeiro dos Pompeus, a community with about 850 inhabitants. It was there, always studying in public school, that he built a journey based on discipline, intense routine, and total focus on the Enem.
Four Approvals in Public Universities
The result is impressive. André was approved in:
-
Friends have been building a small “town” for 30 years to grow old together, with compact houses, a common area, nature surrounding it, and a collective life project designed for friendship, coexistence, and simplicity.
-
This small town in Germany created its own currency 24 years ago, today it circulates millions per year, is accepted in over 300 stores, and the German government allowed all of this to happen under one condition.
-
Curitiba is shrinking and is expected to lose 97,000 residents by 2050, while inland cities in Paraná such as Sarandi, Araucária, and Toledo are experiencing accelerated growth that is changing the entire state’s map.
-
Tourists were poisoned on Everest in a million-dollar fraud scheme involving helicopters that diverted over $19 million and shocked international authorities.
- Medicine at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC)
- Medicine at the State University of Ceará (UECE)
- Psychology at the University of São Paulo (USP)
- Nursing at the State University of Vale do Acaraú (UVA)
The average score obtained in the Enem was 810.72 points, a performance that placed him among the candidates with sufficient scores to compete for the most sought-after courses in the country.
Even with four approvals, the choice was clear: to pursue Medicine at the federal university, on the UFC campus in Sobral.
Medicine Remains Among the Most Demanded Courses in Brazil
Entering Medicine is not a simple task. The cutoff scores are usually among the highest in the Unified Selection System (SiSU), the gateway to federal universities.
According to data from the Ministry of Education, Medicine has historically been among the courses with the highest competition in public institutions. In many cases, the scores exceed 800 points in the Enem.
This makes the achievement of a young man from Ceará, who left a city in the interior of the northeast to secure a spot in a federal university, even more symbolic.
Public School and Discipline Made the Difference
André always studied in public school. In a scenario where many still believe that only students from large centers have real chances in highly competitive courses, his journey shows the opposite.
The preparation involved an organized routine, constant revisions, and daily dedication. There were no shortcuts. There was consistency.
Living in a rural area, far from major educational hubs, he maintained absolute focus on his goal. Discipline compensated for the distance from urban centers.
The Symbolic Weight for the Northeast
When a young man from Ceará conquers a spot in Medicine at a federal university, the impact goes beyond the individual result. He becomes a reference.
Guaraciaba do Norte is a typical city in the interior of the northeast, with an economy primarily based on agriculture and a small population. Seeing a rural student reach this level of approval reinforces a powerful message: the northeast produces competitive talents at the national level.
Cases like this demonstrate that public policies like the Enem and the SiSU have genuinely expanded access to higher education.
The Choice for the Federal University in the Same State
Even approved in Psychology at USP and Medicine at UECE, André chose UFC, Sobral campus.
The decision involves not only the prestige of the institution but also closeness to family and identification with the region. Staying in Ceará makes adaptation easier and maintains the bond with the community where he grew up.
Moreover, the federal university has a strong tradition in medical training and integrated action within the Unified Health System.
Education as a Tool for Transformation in the Northeast
The northeast has made progress in access to higher education in recent decades. The expansion of federal universities to the interior has helped reduce historical inequalities.
Today, young people living in cities in the interior of the northeast can compete for spots with students from any region of the country. The Enem leveled this competition.
André Pereira Veras’ journey represents this ongoing transformation.
More Than an Approval in Medicine
This is not just about entering a competitive course. It is about social mobility, changing perspectives, and a collective example.
When a young man from Ceará secures a spot in Medicine at a federal university, he broadens the horizon for other students who share the same reality.
The story shows that the ZIP code does not define the future. The combination of effort, strategy, and opportunity can take one far.
An Example That Inspires Other Cities in the Interior of the Northeast
Guaraciaba do Norte now has a name that serves as an inspiration for new students. Teachers, classmates, and residents see André’s journey as concrete proof that it is possible.
The northeast continues to reveal talents. And each story like this reinforces the power of public education as a real tool for transformation.
